No V-6s in 1969 GMC Truck Brochure?

So far, I've read that the 305 and 351 V-6s do not appear in the 1969 GMC light truck brochure (models 1500, 2500 and 3500) but I've seen many say these two engines continued to exist that year.

How many of you have a 1969 GMC light truck brochure that DOES make mention of the V-6 models (CM/KM1500, CM/KM2500 and CM3500)?

factorystock is right, the 305E V-6 is in the 1969 GMC light duty 1st. edition brochure. The V-6 option was dropped from the 1500-3500 trucks in March of '69, and it is not included in the 2nd. edition brochure. The last year for the 351E V-6 was '68, it was never offered in the '69 1500-3500.

Re: No V-6s in 1969 GMC Truck Brochure?

I beg to differ. My Dad had a 69 GMC 3/4 ton Truck camper special that he used for his construction business. It had a 351 V6 with an SM465 transmission. It could pull a house off its foundation with the amount of torque it had. That is where I got my passion for these trucks. Even back in the early 70s I knew just about every bolt on that truck. We could load a pallet of brick, a scoop of sand and throw about 10 sacks of mortar in the back of that and go to work, along with towing the cement mixer.

It's possible a '69 GMC could have been "special ordered" with a 351 V6 even though it is not shown in catalogs. Salesmen who wanted to make a sale with finicky buyers would pull some strings with the central office to make it happen.

Re: No V-6s in 1969 GMC Truck Brochure?

Sounds like a very interesting truck! According to the data books, as far as V-6 trucks are concerned, the SM465 was only offered with 305E's in 4X4's in '68 and '69. All V-6 4X2's came with NP435's, and the 351E wasn't offered in 4X4's. The 1969 1st. edition 1500-3500 sales brochure does not list the 351E as you can see from factorystock's posted picture. But of course all of that does not mean a '69 didn't exist with a 351E and an SM465. The parts would certainly bolt together so it's not impossible. That truck could have been some kind of special order from a well connected dealer or GM employee, or it could have been a dealer swap, which was more common than you think back in those days. Sure would like to see a SPID or Protect-O-Plate on that one. I once saw period pictures of a brand new '67 CM-2500 that had a D351 Toroflow diesel under the hood. That one was a dealer swap.

Re: No V-6s in 1969 GMC Truck Brochure?

My dad was the second owner. I knew nothing about spid plates back then as a teenager. Truck was a 2wd. I do remember it having a D60 rear with 4.10 posi, 3 fuel tanks (the truck needed it as it was a gas hog) and dual batteries. Power Steering and power brakes, truck was white, 16.5 rims, bench seat.

Thank you; I never knew they were gone at mid-year.
