another grill polished att crustysarge
Well I picked another grill Wednesday from one of my accounts that I deliver parts to. He has a body shop / junk yard . I found a 71 in there that had a perfect grill shell , the only problem was it looked like it had been thru a briar patch. I asked him what he wannted for it and his word were if you pull it its yours. Needless to say I pulled it. I started last night on the grill. I first used EZ oven off cleaner and let it sit on there about an hour. I rinsed it off and filled me a bucket of water and got a med. sanding sponge. I went over it with that and then hit it with a fine sponge. I got the blue magic and my drill with a polishing bonnett on it . after I polished it I went over it with thinner and got all the wax off and hit it with paint and clear. I did my first grill with the clear and it still look like it did the day i put it in .
My old grill that I did last year is on the fence and the one I got this week is already in the truck.

Welll....all done! I went out and bought some oven cleaner, and some 1000 and 2000 grit sand paper. Sprayed the grill with the cleaner and let sit for a bit. Hosed it off and let it dry(2 minutes considering the heat out here!). First I went with the 1000 grit, wiped, then the 2000 grit. Next I used the Mothers aluminum polish to finish it up. WOW. Amazing shine. I also taped it it up and sprayed all the accent paint(black). Also painted the inner grill black to make the grill really stand out. NICE! The grill cost me $13(inner and outer) so I'm happy. Is it perfect? No. Is it much nicer than my old smashed grill? Yep.
Thanks for all the tips. jakeslim |
