How can you tell the difference between a 250 and a 292?
My friend has a 6 cyl in his chevy pickup (not original its out of a van because he blew up the 350 by going 85 miles an hour in second with no oil) but the 6 that is in there right now rips! we have repeadetly buried the needle with this motor and i have my suspisions that it is a 292. It has an integeral head which i have been told is only on 292. But the sticker on the van says 250 , ah im confused

integral head is 75-up 250, 292 pass side engine mount is mounte din forward holes of the frame, is 3" farther forward than pass side and farther forward than all other straigt 6 engines, and fuel pump is behind engine mount towards rear 2/3 of engine. and entire engine is taller and the rod side covers are way taller than on a 250,.

hooter - got to ask a question. are you going to sell the '68 cst trim that you advertised to sell for $400.00. i agreed to by it a that cost plus shipping . you e-mailed me back with your agreement. you never gave me your mailing address, i've tried for the last 7 days to get this info from you . but for some reason you can post on the board , but can 't repley to about 5 or 6 emails. did we lose a connection somewhere ? iam sitting on $450.00 american dollars(like you asked)in a money order. would you like to go through with the deal we agreed on or has something changed . please let me know , i can use the money in other ways.
if some body knows him , could ask him to pm on this topic . thanks

This is a 292. Look at the push rod covers and the fuel pump location.

doesnt matter what tranny, all trannies are same in third gear or fourth if so equipped, are 1 to 1 ratio in final gear last gea rin th350 is same in a 4 speed as in a thm200C, or in a NP435CR, or etc etc
unless are an overdrive tranny, thennnnnn its a different story in final gear, |

The I6 250 is a great engine. Mine's bored over 40 and runs like a top. On cool mornings when the engine warms up, it jumps at a green light and loves to run down an open highway.
The mileage is not bad, 15-20 mpg, thought that might change if I can get my hands on a good double-barrel carb. I'm running a TH350 automatic tranny, too. 68ChevC10
