Front Suspension Bushings - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Two Questions:

First, how can you tell when you need to replace the front upper and lower control arm bushings? I'm changing my ball joints and I'm trying to decide if I need to do the bushings too.

Where is a good place to buy these bushings? The prices at the dealer are stupid...any suggestions?

If it's the 76 GMC, you can just about bet they need changing. If you are after stock rubber replacement stuff, any autoparts place will sell them.

if you can see that the bushings are dried out real bad, they show cracks in the rubber part of the bushing itself.

i have a complete polyeurethane bushing kit, front and rear i'll make you a deal on... shoot me a PM

look for the shafts being off centered. cracks are ugly yes but if the bushings are still centered they are still doing their job. no offense to anyone but poly bushings=SQUEEK!! they are great for handling and racing, but on a daily driver they will drive you nuts. there is a company that makes aluminum bushings with a teflon insert that is replacable. they are a bit expensive to buy at first (about $200) but the inserts are pretty inexpensive. dont remember the name just now, but they work well on one of our customers rigs. and they are greasable too.

I have the original bushing and such, and Red squeaks over bumps or whatever in the road, would that be bushings?

could be a bad bushing or a dry ball joint or tie rod end. do you have poly sway bar bushings? if it is a bushing it is more than likely an upper control arm.

Urethane bushings squeak, yes. This is the reason you need to use Poly-graphite bushings.

When you use the PST ones, they're just bouncy. LOL

I have the Prothayne, They dont squeek (after and 3 years) but they DO seem rough. I am kinda regetting doing the POLY bushings, I think they are to stiff on a truck. Unless someone knows of a soft shock

Yeah, not a GM, but I love it. 1969 GMC 32,000 - fix, drive, relax, fix... 2019 BMW R1250 GSA - Yahoooooooo 1979 Honda GL 1000 - retro touring at its best. Past: '05 Sierra 4x4 - Had 270,000 KM and running well when it was written-off by a stop sign runner. '94 F-150 from the "F word" company. I'll admit it...good truck. Sold what was left of it for $800 to a guy who came to pick it up at 11:00 PM with cash in hand. Hmm. '79 Sierra Grande (Black) organ donor - perfect rebuildable 4-bolt 350 and a good TH350. '76 Sierra Grande (Orange) - hate isn't too strong a word. Kid who bought it turned it into a hot rod. '68 C-10 R.I.P. - Dad's old truck...too far gone to resurrect. '59 C-50 - with hoist. Truck is gone, wife isn't. Nuff said.
