Np 205 Help!!
Two questions.
1) Does anyone know the shift pattern for the NP 205 transfer case??? 2) Any time I turn hard (when in 4wd) I heard a tapping sound. It speeds up and gets louder and I go faster and vice versa for slower. I checked the axle knuckles and there is clearance. I had just installed new hubs, rotors, bearings, and calipers. Any ideas??? This can't be normal. |

your 205 pattern is ,,, there are 4 positions on it , from back to forward , all the way back is 4 hi , next is 2 hi , next is nuetral and all the way forward is 4 lo ,, on your clanking problem it could be a number of things , bad axle joints , check your front drive shaft for slop , sounds to me like your axle joints need replacing , but you also could have something messed up in your new bearings or hubs , maybe you overtightened or something , but id go for the axle joints

Anytime I turn sharp with the hubs locked I get a clunking noise too. I have new joints and it still occurs. I beleive that some noise while turning sharp with the hubs locked is normal. The hubs shouldn't be locked when driving on dry pavement. When driving in mud, dirt, ice, or snow the light clunking noise will dissapear. I do have a very strong Power-Lok LS diff in the front of my truck if that makes any difference. If you wanted to see if it's the drive shaft, try removing it and try it then.
