1991 driveline conversion

I am about to start a project with a 1991 chevy k1500. I am taking a 1978 chevy 4x4's driveline which is an np203 and turbo 350 and installing it in the 1991. I am using an ORU solid front axle conversion kit and putting a corporate 10 bolt in the front. I will update on this project the details that are involved in doing it and also if anyone has already done this could you email me some info that I will need to know to victory1971c10@yahoo.com.

I have an 89 K3500 that I put the ORU kit in. Click on the link in my sig for some pics. I used a divorced 205, and a Gm Dana 60 axle. I wasn't too bad to do not having the right tools for the job. I have a 97 that Im gonna do the SAS in, soon as I get some time and money. Don't know how big of tire you gonna run, but if it's over 35s, and gonna take it wheeling, might want to hold for a D60, as that ten bolt ain't gonna hold up too well.

Is there any modifications to the floor for the shifter? What about the crossmember for the transfercase? Did you use the crossover kit that ORU offers or did you use the steering compinents under the donor truck?

save your money on the conversion kit. you can accomplish the same thing with a set of rear spring front hangers from a 73-87 2wd truck, use the rear shackles on your springs, then bolt the stock 78 front spring hanger to the bottom of your frame. i dont know if i would put a 350/203 in it, why not find a 208 or a passenger side drop 241 (208 will be easier to find, 241s were only available in 89-91 Blazers and Burbs IIRC) and bolt it to your 700R4. not only will it allow you to keep your OD, but will give you better all around gear ratios.

since you're looking into changing to leaf springs, you might want to look into 52" rear springs up front and crossover steering. is the parts truck a 1/2 or 3/4 ton? if so, you already have a set of 52" springs that will work. they will give you and extra 4-5" of lift.

I dont recall what he did for the steering . You might go to www.pirate4x4.com and search SAS swap you can find alot of info there. As well as the owner of that trucks write up on how and what he did.
