Repro Door Handles Causing Doors not to Unlock?

I just got through having my truck painted. I had my body man install new, reproduction door handles on the finished truck. If I puch the lock button down on the doors, then shut them, they will sometimes be impossible to unlock. You just can't pull the lock button up. To fix this condition, I have to wiggle the rod around that goes from the door handle to the door latch. Then the door will unlock fine. I compared the factory and the repro door handle and they are a little different. It looks like the linkage rod needs to be a little longer to work with the repro door handle. Is there any tricks to getting the repro door handles to work correctly?

If you are talking about outside door handles I have the same problem myself. As of now I just dont lock them untill I get a chance to figure out how to solve the problem. So I would also like some info on ow to fix this.

My 85 Did that with the factory Handles I always thought it needed oiling. What i had to do if the rod got hung in the down position Is push the door handle button That normally free'd it up .

I have that problem from time to time on my truck. I find that if the key wont want to turn I just have to push in the handle button and then the key turns and unlocks fine.

I got it fixed today. I took the rods out and ground some more clearance on the cap end of the rod to allow the rod to go down farther. I also lubed everything with grease. They work fine now.
