Fitting 22's up front.
I have ART's Cool-Ride kit, stock X-member, no inner fenders, raised exhaust, and no heating/AC system. Will I have to tub the firewall to clear these wheels w/ say a 285/35/ZR22 tire? What size tires would you recommend? Thanks.

Why do you want such a tall tires? That's like 29.85 in tall!!!! I "think" you will be alright at the firewall since you have no heater fan, but your going to be getting really close to the top of the inner fender....

I was just throwing that tire size "out there". I don't mind running rubber bands at all. Should I go w/ a 265/35/ZR22 tire or what?

Oh, ok. I thought maybe because it was available in a specific tire you wanted to run. Although I don't recommend going with something as low pro as a 30 series tire, a 35 might be what you need.
Kumho makes a 265/35/22 and a 285/35/22 that sells for $217 and $243 respectivly. That might be a pretty good combo.... |

Thanks for the suggestion. Those should make for perfect f/r tire sizes. Now, if I could only make up my mind on which wheels to purchase.

you are going to have to trim the fenders and the hood to clear the tire. The inner fender almost has to come out, or you can cut most of it out...try going down to 30 series tires....

I knew I would have to modify the fenders after removing the inner fenders but trimming the hood?! From what I remember, I had enough room to clear 22's w/o much trouble.

A 265/35/22 is a little under 29" tall.I had this tire mounted on a 87 that was body dropped. It didn't hit the firewall but would hit the heater box.It will clear without the bd though.

it could be differant on the boxy bodystyle, but on a 67-72 22's will not fit without noching the hood. |

It's not the same on 73-87's because the fenders are much taller. This tire isn't quit as tall as what we are talking about. It's closer to 27" tall but it gives you a good visual... |

It will rub- On my 63 suburban it is within 1/4" of hitting and my car is still going to come down another 1/2-1inch more. I also moved my crossmember up an inch. Run a 265-35-22. My tire on the front is a 245-40-20 BFG. I think it is 28.5" tall. If you are slamming the front to lay frame you should get alot of camber movement so your wheels will come in a decent amount. If you get the right offset it will clear your fenders.

Okay...taking it one step further...I'm looking at running 265/35/22's on a 9.5 inch wide rim on my '88 burb and would like to run the same rim/tire combo on all 4 corners. What backspacing should I get knowing that in the near future the rockers will be on the ground?
