Why would you not tell? Man I have a LOVE for these trucks and want to see them restored. You are not going to hurt me by telling. Most of my customers buy from me because I stand behind what I sale and also try to go that extra mile for them. So lets here it. Were do you get them. Heck, I might want to buy one! LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I like the vendors on the board and appreciate their input, but believe me, they make money on every deal they run. Running a "deal" is to get the attention of prospective buyers to their business. Hoping that they will get a repeat customer. Believe me, they are not loosing money on these "deals". Besides, it is not like you would be posting about how to buy the whole 67-72 product line cheaper. You are posting about 1 part.

This board is here, so truck enthusiast can exchange ideas and help each other out. Posting a good deal is what this board is all about.

Now if a vendor was running a deal on this same thing, and you posted on his post that it could be had for cheaper. That would be wrong.

jorgensensc,
The time has come. The vote is unanimous even with two of the highest volume vendors responses. We all anxiously await.
(drum roll please)

I found a place that sells fenders cheap. Should I tell? Or I found a place that sells bumpers cheap. Should I tell?
Guess I miss the point. I tell my friends about deals, I tell my family. I did not ask the Chevy dealers permission to tell my friends what I paid and where. They asked me to.

Alright, alright,

I see people are starting to get annoyed. Thanks to the vendors for giving me the heads up. Thanks for everyones patience!!! Now I just hope thatthis is worth your time. Here's what I got

1 New metal blazer tank
1 New sending unit
2 New holding straps
All the approptiate hardware

For 166.00 + tax. from the Truck Shop in Santa Anna, Ca
Total for me was 178.87
Part number ('63-'66) 63-107091
('69-'72) 69-107092
Phone number- 1-800-Chevy-47 (243-8947)

Yes I know they are a vendor, but they just started offering this setup. They had the poly tanks, but most people don't like them because they sag. These tanks appear to be made from good gauge steel, and appear quality. I was told they were 21 gallons (no baffles inside). They also told me they get them made 'down the street' that's why they are so cheap. I have been shopping for a tank lately, and new ones run around 230.00 + shipping. Even a used tank with used sending unit would cost me at least 100.00 (from members) and 150.00 from junkyards. A new sending unit would cost about 45.00 new. I hope I haven't wasted anyones time. Pleas don't flame me too bad if y'all already knew about them.

They sell the tank alone for 128.00

Custom Aluminum top or side fill 459.00 (Don't know if that is good)

If anyone knows anything negative about these tanks please do tell!!

Hope this helps, Sorry for the wait!!!!!
Shawn

[edit- I added the part number]

Thumbs up

Friday I went to A junkyard and pulled A blazer tank and everything I could get my hands on. (sending unit, fuel lines only half way foward on frame, monting hardware). I do have A question though. The tank has A small hole in it. its open less than A 16th. and maybe 3/8 of an inch long. It has A couple minor dents other than that its in relatively good shape. I know get to the question- Can this be repaired by brazzing or welding. Yes after the tank has been evacuated of vapors. By the way I picked it all up for $20.

Yes, the tank is fixable. The problem is who is going to fix it and how much will they charge you? With the extra effort required for this repair I would expect the cost of repair to be higher than a normal job. Some may not be willing to do it. If you or a friend is the one doing the repair then the extra effort may be worth it.

That's where mine came from except I had to pay a little more shipping (lot farther from Ca.)

BTW--you don't repair gas tanks by welding or braze--the heat may melt the solder joints. You solder them.

Yes it's repairable. anyone that welds knows how to do it.. You fill it with water, Then brase or mig/tig weld it. Your local muffler shop could do this one easily.

If you were close by, I'd do this for nothing for you.

Ron

Now, I would like for the board vendors to compare the specs since they are now revealed.
How do yours compare ?
Tim, Wes, GMCPaul, do yours have baffles, lines, anything that make yours a better value?
I am leary of "made down the street" items. I want a warranty, thick gauge material and a name I can trust.
Perhaps this is name brand. Educate me.

What I mean by made down the street is that the company that makes them for The Truck Shop is literally a block down the street. That means they don't have to pay for shipping etc. Yes it is in Orange, Ca I said Santa Anna because it is right there next to it, my mistake. The Truck Shop does stand behind their stuff, too.

70 Short, keep in mind that there might be more rust holes getting ready to come through. I suggest you spend a little more for the new tank, that way you don't have any fuel leaks later you can't see. Just My opinion though.
