Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Well since I got my furnace hooked up and working last winter ,I hope to continue a project I started 2 years ago on Jan. 1st and worked on for 4 months then have not touched it since then.. Life , Family and being self employed have gotten in the way...Ambition has been fading as I get older.. hope to find an elixir that will help me to get motivated but not cause my heart to explode or beat out of time...

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Get some weight secured in the bed and do donuts with my new snow tires on. Also, front discs and lowering it a few inches. Maybe a nice exhaust too if I get to it.

I plan on pulling out my 327, resealing it... get rid of a leak...clean it up and go back to Chevy orange with it (currently yellow).

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Probably more than 1 mouthful to bite off, but we'll see. After pulling the 350/350turbo and installing a low mile 307 crate motor and a 700r, it's been a daily driver for 2 1/2 yrs while I accumulated parts and pieces. Sooooo:

pull front clip, motor and tranny
clean and POR frame, patch inner fenders (456chevy) and Raptor line them and firewall.
Install 82 c10 steering column and power steering gear box and power brake booster (Captainfab adapters). Staying drum/drum for now.
Remove bed, clean frame and POR it. Install 3" drop springs. Shorten driveshaft.
Blast and prep/primer bed while off. Back of cab as well.
Detail 10000 mile 383 stroker and tranny ($600.00 for it as well as the 80 El Camino it was in. Had BW T10 with Hurst shifter. After selling/scrapping unwanted stuff, final cost of motor - $175.00)
Reskin doors.
Patch or replace fenders.

Seems like a lot now that I wrote it down but target date is end of May.

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

My goal is to be driving the truck by next summer, this will require the following work during winter and spring:

1) Finishing cab sheet metal work (Parts are ready)
2) Painting and sealing new cab floor
3) Completing front end disc/drop/power steering work (Parts are ready)
4) Assembling my engine (Some parts are ready; waiting on tax return)
5) Installing tank in rear
6) Runing new brake/fuel lines

I'll then worry about patching my tailgate and fenders while driving it!

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

To crush my enemies, to see them driven before me, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

...but before that I want to get the Econoline 16" wheels I just got converted for 3/4 ton hubcaps, tires, get the heater working, and get an HEI for the V6. Some new wood for the bed would be nice also...

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Get the heater working! Tis the season to have heat.
Change the oil (eeeeasy.)
Replace Passenger's door, get the big mirrors (drill holes for matching mirror on driver's side)
repair, sand, bondo, primer and paint passenger's fender. also get some shims to position it correctly (this is about the same time as the door project)
Cherrybomb it (or an actual muffler? thoughts?)
Get a radio and stereo system for Christmas!
Last thing is to meet someone who has a '65 or '66. It'd be fun to talk to someone who actually knows what they're doing.

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

I have to redo steering column, need to shorten the shaft still need to install 1 more floor support, work out the E-brake cables and stuff. Too much to do. Can't do too much as my truck is outside in open weather...

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Rebuild 292

Freshen up 4 speed with new gaskets and seals

Clean up 4 speed steering column and get it ready to install

Purchase heavy duty clutch assembly

New U-joints and bearing support for drive shaft

Paint steel wheels and have them mounted

Convert from low hump to high hump

Buy all necessary seals for inner fenders and hood, grommets for firewall, stickers for engine, etc for when I install engine and transmission.

Install my overload springs

Find a factory sway bar

I have a decent laundry list for this winter (and into the spring)! I already got the 292 torn down and it looks excellent. Just saving the cash for the rebuild kit.
Luckily, the truck runs and drives perfectly right now with the 283 and 3 speed, so no down time!

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

Get the Big Back Window installed
Put a 50 chevy sedan gas tank under the bed and remove the in cab tank
Install a new gauge cluster with working gauges not warning lights
lower the stance
fix a few small oil drips
then drive it like I stole it when spring gets here.

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

i dropped off a set of doors at chaotic customs in conroe, tx, along with patch panels. having the door handle and mirror holes shaved as well. install those at the begining of january, finish up the wiring for power windows and door poppers, and install those. already re-wired the entire truck, just little finishing touches here and there.

Re: What's your Winter Goal?

By the time spring rolls around, I'd like to have the cab separated from the frame, the unnecessary holes in the firewall welded up, the cab interior in primer, and the underside of the cab sprayed with Raptor bedliner. Hopefully work will have begun on the frame by then as well.
