Re: Intake & Carb Install
i was thinking about this... you did install NEW throttle return springs right?
and if nothing else seems obvious once the pictures get uploaded you might just need to buy the cruise control bracket just so that the throttle cable will mount properly to the carb. its a 20% part that may solve your problem. the other thing that just came to mind is: is it possible that you mounted up your cable mount bracket on the back of your intake manifold backwards or improperly? maybe one bolt hole off? one bolt hole forward of where it was before? did you use your old cable mount or did you buy one of them universal chrome jobbies that may not be exactly right? I did buy a new return spring for it because I knew that was essential. I don't have cruise control on the truck so I don't believe that would present an issue? Well I took the stock one from the q-jet and it works fine it just needs to be able to move a little bit further up. I found an adjustable throttle cable bracket I was going to give a shot and hope it works that way. And if that doesn't work I'm just going to break down and buy a new throttle cable. Everything else buttons up fine except the throttle cable.

Re: Intake & Carb Install
To check to see if your cable is too short just pop it outta the bracket and see how far it reaches.

Re: Intake & Carb Install
It is the throttle cable but was told the possibility of changing to an adjustable throttle bracket would maybe work, should I just get a new throttle cable and work with it like that?

Re: Intake & Carb Install
Picture time!!!
![]() Here's how the set up looks currently. The bind isn't as much due to it's not plugged up the pedal, so there's not as much tension but even when I push the throttle on the carb it's hard to push ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Intake & Carb Install
THanx for the pics.
Not hard to see why your throttle doesn't work right. Nasty cobbled throttle bracket. Your cable's long enough. You just need a bracket like in the link. That'll get it working. http://performanceparts.com/part/Edelbrock/8036 |

Re: Intake & Carb Install
Yeah it's been a challenge but at the end of the day I'm just thankful it's almost there and running. My only complaint is that a lot of other ppl have done an identical swap and had no issues with the throttle cable so that's what I'm not understanding.

Re: Intake & Carb Install
It just needs switched power. Find an open spot on the fuse block.

But the fuse block is on the inside so how do I get it in there?

Re: Intake & Carb Install
There should be at least 1 grommet in the firewall (for the speedo cable). Run the wire you need through one of the grommets. It looks like you could follow the blue wire that is attached to your tach signal on the distributor.

Re: Intake & Carb Install
choke is NOT necessary. makes for easier starts but not needed. I was a lazy bastard and left my choke disconnected. pump the pedal twice and fire.
its been getting cooler here at night so i will probably hook up the choke this weekend or next. -Izzy
