Re: Why convert to short bed?
Well there ya go. All figured out now. Cut 'em down and get a trailer for your hauling needs and get more room in the garage too.

Re: Why convert to short bed?
A lot of you young boys are so used to looking at your own era trucks that you think proper proportions are short bed/long cab. Anything other than a regular cab is an adaptation to what a truck is. They have become half car/half truck, with passenger capacity taking space from hauling capacity and those are the odd truck proportions. A short bed double cab is a big car with no trunk lid...that is, till you go out and buy a hard bed cover. I can haul more in my station wagon (Suburban). A long bed isn't out of proportion, some people's perspectives are

I like them both but I have a long bed and I have no desire whatsoever to cut it up and down to chase any trend. I've seen great examples of both...and then great examples of the opposite, which is the longhorn. All of them valuable trucks. As for the comments equating long beds to 4 door cars...lol, that is a comment for the birds, ridiculous. All good Coley

Re: Why convert to short bed?
I have both a LWB and a SWB step side. My view points, everybody's got one, is.
The LWB just has a smoother ride than a SWB same shocks and everything on mine at least. SWB has a sportier look than the LWB and draws more folks to them at car shows. Me personnally I love my LWB truck. The short stepper has a place in my heart but I prefer the LWB and would keep it over the other.

Re: Why convert to short bed?
They are just toys at this point , a long bed is about worthless as a daily work driver at todays standards ,Yeah lot's of guys still use them but todays new trucks are far and above anything a 67-72 can perform on a daily basis . Whine ,cry and complain all you want about how good your old truck is it just can't perform the way a new truck can , Period !
cutting a long bed down is just wrong , it will never recover any of it's value . If you want a short bed buy a short bed ,spend the cash and quit whinning about how many $ it cost you to cut yours down .. |

You seem to be out of touch. There are guys out there buying longbed trucks and cutting them and selling them for triple what they paid. The profit far outstrips the labor and materials cost. And, they are doing it as fast as they can turn them out.

Internet high five brother.
I'm also a car guy, not a close minded Chevy guy.

Re: Why convert to short bed?
Same here. I'm sure it confuses the Hell outta some folks when I get out of my Cheyenne wearing a "Built Ford Tough" T shirt, or I'm wearing my "Chevrolet Racing" cap while driving my Thunderbird.
I don't care who makes it- if it's mechanical, it's gonna break eventually. Ain't none of them any better or worse than the next. |

Re: Why convert to short bed?
This goes for both trucks and women - if it/she wasn't born that way ? Then I'm not interested - no matter how good it looks !!!
If I have the choice ? I definitely prefer a shortbed, they look 'sportier', are lighter, handle/corner better etc, my DD is a swb and I refuse to ever buy a new lwb (or any truck with more than 2 doors for that matter), but cutting up an all original lwb just to own a FAKE swb ? NEVVVVVVER !!!!!! |

It's bad (or entertaining) enough being longbed vs short bed vs cut short bed ... maybe we shouldn't add chevy vs ford to the mix
