What is this noise????

I have a noise when i brake and turn to the left. It sounds like a grinding and it will start and stop every second or so and when it grinds or groans the speedo jumps up to about 60 then back down... i have cruise but it don't work.. i took the cables off and lubed them but it still does it...do i just need to replace the speedo cables or is there something else possibly wrong??? The cruise is broke so should i just take it out and run a cable from tranny directly to the speedo???

Thanks in advance,

Rick

It's a catastrophic success.

Unhook it from the tranny first, that way nothing is turning, and see if the noise quits, if not, then continue the search if it does then you have a choice of replacing the whole cable or the cruise cables.
