What is the typical width of a standard GM truck rally rim?
I am shopping by phone for tires for the 72. I am retaining my GM rally rims that came on the 72 when I bought it. What would the rim width be on the rims. They are the very standard, common silver 5 bolt rally rims with the beauty rings and chevrolet center caps. They currently have the ever popular 235/75/15. I want to put on 255/60 or 275/60 tires, but not sure of the rim width. Can't measure as the tires are still on them. I checked for stamp markings but could not make anything out. I am hoping they are 8", but maybe they are 7". Anyone have any ideas?

yup, the trucks were available in 7 or 8"....buyer be ware tho, the van rallies look the same, but are 6 1/2" wide. it seems like the 7" ralleys are more common on the trucks, or at least i had a little more trouble getting 8" ralleys. crazyL

You need the big old sissor looking thing that measures rim sizes with the tire on! Go to local Goodyear dealer or such!

67 Chevemall is right, any good tire store will have that tool, looks like tongs. I'd ask them to check them all to make sure they are all the same. I learned that one the hard way once.
