Driving home on the freeway thursday a Porsche SUV stopped in front of me and I didn't get stopped in time. She had damage to her bumper and rear door, but the tail lights and rear glass were intact. The lady behind me didn't fair too well in her Acura. My truck is ...toast

No one was hurt, so I guess we were all pretty lucky.

is the insurance comp. going to total it??? Similar situation happened to me (not that serious) and they tryed to take my truck from me and tell me it was totaled....Bullsh!t i showed them the recipts of the $6,800 i put just in the motor! fight to keep your truck!~

If they do total the truck, you always have first rights to buy it back for parts. It's usually very cheap. They pay you for the total loss, then you buy it from them for scrap value.

Thanks for all the kind words. The only injuries are my fat lip (from the steering wheel) and my deeply bruised heart and ego.

I haven't heard from the insurance company of the driver behind me, so I don't know what will happen there. My insurance company told me that they (the people behind me) would be responsible to fix the back of my truck and any damage to the front caused by the second impact. How the heck do you differentiate the damage of the first impact from the second?

The Porsche didn't look bad at all-just a bent in rear door and scratched up bumper cover. It drove away. The Acura that folded up my bumper and tow hitch and sent my spare sliding down the freeway didn't fair nearly as well. It looked fairly new, but no air bag deployment, so it must have been just well taken care of.
I dug out the sales tax reciept to document the price I paid for the truck when I bought it. Right now it's sitting in the barn waiting for it's fate to be determined.

I agree with Putter. glad to hear you are not hurt (except for the pride)! I'll bet the porsche has major structural damage though. just doesnt show.

did it get the rad. support? looks cosmetic from pics. (I hope)

Ouch, sorry to see that and glad no one was seriously hurt, I have had vehicles totaled and bought them back from Insurance for real cheap money. Would make for goos starter truck.

sorry to hear of your loss...failure to maintain assured clear distance, right? Think positively, the ticket wont cost that much. Lets just hope the driver of the Acura has insurance and isn't driving on an expired and suspended license...which happened to me

Well, the radiator core support was ripped from the mounts on the driver's side and the radiator pushed into the engine, breaking the alternator. The front fender is pushed back so that the door doesn't open and the bed hit the back of the cab on both sides. The tailgate is now bowed at the bottom. My insurance company told me not to touch anything until the other company came to look at it.

The officer said that everyone was properly licensed and insured. He also said that when the insurance claims are settled, the court date would be set and if the person that you hit didn't show up to testify, that the ticket would most likely be dismissed. That would help keep the insurance company from raising the rates too high.

1st off, glad no one was hurt. It looks pretty bad. The damage in the front is all above the frame rail, which is why it took such a hit. Expensive, but easy fix. The box sandwiching the cab should be covered by the Acura's insurance. I think the cab is "toast" as you say. I wouldn't be surprised if the frame is bent from the rear impact. The box moved a long way forward to cause that much damage from just bolts streching or braking and the bed floor bending. Sad to see these old trucks go this way, just hold out for adaquate compensation. God knows we all pay plenty to the Insurance Co's at premium time !!!

Wow, man I feel your pain. My damage isn't nearly that bad, but the fact that I only had her done and on the road for a week before being side swiped was enough to make me almost cry.

Don't send her to the grave too soon. I just ordered ALL brand new sheet metal for mine with the insurance funds, she will rise again!!!!!! Stand tall to the insurance company, make 'em pay what you know it's worth!
