exhaust question

When they say 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 inch are they say outside diameter? Trying to measure mine one the truck with big tips so can not get to the ends. But atempting to measure with t square looks like it is 2 1/4 outside diameter or close to it.

Does that I have 2 1/4 inch?

Thanks

Outside diameter. Tie a string around it, then cut it off & measure the string. Divide by 3.14, & you have the diameter.

I called Summit a few minutes ago and asked if they measure their exhuast tubing by I.D. or O.D. and the sales guy said I.D.
On Jegs website they say O.D.
So I dont know which is right.

Did you figure out which you have yet?

Exhaust tubing is measured in O.D. Accessories such as mufflers, cats, tips are measured in I.D. Most likely, they'll both just be called 2.5 or 3 or 2.25 or whatever, with no o.d. or i.d. listed. But most mufflers and cats and tips are expanded to I.D. to allow the tubeing to slide into them. Some companies such as JC Whitney have 45, 90, and 180 degree bends that have an I.D. end and an O.D. end. They call it swaged or expanded. But for the most part, straight tubing is measured in O.D.

Yeah I had it mixed up. Sorry for the mistake.
The pipe is measured O.D., the 3" pipe I have is slightly bigger then 3" O.D. though.
The 3" pipe I have (purchased from Jegs) is 3" from center of wall to center of wall. I.D. is slightly less then 3" and O.D. is slightly larger then 3".
The accessories are measured by I.D. and are also slightly over sized too.
The O.D. of the pipe is closer to the actual measurement then the I.D. of the accessories.

Yeah it gets confusing. The first exhaust I did, we didn't have a tubing bender or expander. I had to order a few adapters to make it work, and I got the ID and OD confused, and only one of them ended up working out of 4. Wasn't too good.
