if it is equiped with a q-jet 4 barrell the fuel filter is in the front of the carb where the fuel line connects. unscrew the big "nut" but you may have to loosen the fuel line "nut" as well. just be careful not to twist the fuel line, and make sure it is straight when you put the big nut back on... if you crossthread it... you are SOL... ask me how i know??!

I dont know where they are on the 2BBL, but on the 4BBLs like stated above they are on the carb. I just wanted to add to what Jon said. When putting the filter and lines back on the 4BBL be carefull. You do not want to strip those threads going into the carb.
On my '83 there is also something (maybe a filter, can someone confirm?) on the fuel line going to the pump. Its located on the inside of the passenger side frame and is near the back of the cab. Maybe different if you dont have dual tanks.
