How I get rid of speaker holes!!
I have a realy nice set of 72 doors that are not rusted out, but did have speaker holes cut in them. I had some extra time and a couple of scrap doors to cut up, so I thought what the heck!! It gives me a chance to keep up my practice of welding.... How do you think it turned out? I don't think too bad for a Rooky!! Anyway I thought that I would publish the pictures to show the lesser experienced guys that a little time, patients, welder and a little practice, you could fix simeler problems inexpesivly. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com
This first set of pictures show cutting the speaker hole out to make the hole square. I did this because I figured it would be easier to make the patch... If you want you could hold the new metal to the bottom of the hole and trace the new patch though.

OOPS posted the pictures in backward order...LOL This group shows spot welding the patch in place. Grinding the welds down, and spot welding the places missed. Then cleaning it up in preperation for the minor filler work it will need.... If I keep doing this maybe some day I will be able to do fillerless work... Well maybe!! WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Man that looks familiar , I just did that on both of my doors but traced it out from the back side and repaired round holes. Did u weld it w/ mig & gas ? I used the inner shielded wire because I can't afford the bottle yet .

If you are doing lots of that type of work you should invest in some of these clamps. They will improve your end results guaranteed.

Thanks again guys. Ya, I think the magnets are great! They only cost about $4.00 each at Harbor Freight too!! charlieo, this was done with my Millermatic 175 mig welder. It does have a gas bottle and not flux core wire. Gee_Emm, I am curiouse about your clamps. I saw them on one of your previouse post. Where did you buy them? I would like to check them out. I got mine on ebay. Eastwood sells a heavier duty version for about 3 times the price but the ones I got work great.

I'm sure you'll get many responses as to "where to buy them". I use them also and are available from EASTWOOD (and I'm sure elsewhere). They work great!

Also...as far as those sheet metal clamps go, a friend of mine picked up a bunch at Harbor Freight. I have no clue where you'd look in the store, and I'm sure the mental heavyweights behind the counter wouldn't be able to tell you where they are....so you'd have to just hunt for them I suppose.

I have seen the ones from Eastwood and they have thicker square tubing then the cheapies. I don't think it makes a difference though.
