3/4 ton to 1 ton ?'s
I recently bought a 86 crew cab 3/4 ton and have been thinking about changing it over to a duall wheel 1 ton. It has the heavy duty 14 bolt ff rear. What parts will I need to change the suspension to the dual 1 ton wheels in the rear, and the 1 ton front wheels? I want to run the rear dually fenders, so the parts need to be for that, not a cab and chassis. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a cab and chassis rear wheels don't stick out as far as a duall wheel dually.
Thanks Trey |

Are you wanting to change this to a 1-ton truck, or are you just trying to make it LOOK like a a 1-ton truck?
Putting duallie wheels on the axles you currently have will not make it a 1-ton. You will still have the same GVW you have now, just more tires. You will need to change axles, brakes, and springs to those from a 1-ton truck. Probably drive shafts as well, along with new output yokes on the transmission and transfer case. I believe the 1-ton uses larger u-joints. On the other hand, if you just want the look, I have seen ads for companies that sell kits to install dual rear wheels and fenders. Quote:
