'84 Pickup 454 - Heads?
Hello all - I'm slowly but surely working on a '70 Chevy, but in the meantime I got this question from my father-in-law... been searching but can't seem to find the answer... he is looking at some heads that supposedly came off of an '84 Chevy pickup 454 and was wondering if they are rectangular port or oval port...? I don't have any numbers ( and guess he hasn't seen any either), but if they well and truly are factory heads, I don't imagine there were both in '84...
Any insight...!? Thanks... |

If they were off an '84 BBC truck that was stock and original they would have oval ports on the intakes. They were also called "peanut ports" because they were smaller than the original GM oval ports. They were designed for low rpm and torque.
I may be wrong on the peanut port deal See if you can get a casting number off the '84's. The casting number should be between the springs, look for the last three digits. Go to www.mortec.com/castnum.htm that should give you an idea of the parts origin. CCDually Last edited by GMC1tondually4dr; 07-17-2004 at 05:59 PM. |

i can definately tell you they are not going to be rectangular port! They will be peanut port (small oval) and are dime a dozen. but not necessarily trash, just not a performance head. great for pulling stumps

peanut ports are boat anchors. get some 781 or 049 castings and have them pocket ported and maybe install some bigger valves . oh , and hang on !
