I have power brakes!!!
My hubby put in the power brake booster he got from Autozone. It had the wrong rod, but luckily we had another available to pull the rod from.
I have front and rear drums, but the power booster is a world of difference. Feels great to me!!! My leg doesn't burn just to get her stopped. For those of you that are trying to deciede on discs or not, I say just put in the booster and stick with the drums! Works great! Diane |

Hey, how much did the whole setup cost you? I have a 69 that at one time had power brakes, but the booster and master cylinder were removed. What all did you buy and how much was it all?

I have read a couple of articles over the years on venting drums. It seems as if you drill drums in a pattern to keep them balanced and in a way they don't crack. The latest was just a few days ago.The advantage is supposedly that water, dust, debris and the gasses from the brake shoes have a way out of the drum. This is touted as the advantage to discs so it makes some sense.I have never seen it nor do I have any experience with driving a ride with this mod.I believe the article said it cost about $45.00 a drum.I will try to find the article when I have a chance.

Bleach- I think the booster was about $80 from Autozone. We had an old power booster for the right rod, and we reused our master cylinder.

Drums
My 70 swb 4x4 has drums also, when I first got it I was planning on doing a disc swap like everyone else does but now that I've drivin it around and gotten used to them, I'm keeping the drums. :p
Mine already has a power booster and everytime I drive it I find myself thinking... "whats so bad about these brakes anyway?" |
