Project getting going( UPDATED!!)
Well I finally took time off work to start getting this project going. I also asked my fiance to help me out. By the pics it will look like she is doing all the work but she doesn't use my digital camera so I took all the pics. Till she got tired of being in them. So here they are. We spent about 2 1/2 hours working on the truck tonight.
NOW for the pics. Here she is lighting up some picks so we don't get eaten alive by mosquitoes while working, Dubie and Shawna can relate, lol.BTW she hates it when I take pics of her, LOL can you tell. The rest can basically speak for themselves. What it looked like before we touched it tonight.

I still have to strip every thing out of the cab so I can take it off and get a few e$timate$ on getting it fixed or deciding on replacing it. Hopefully tomorrow I can take the front clip off and take the rest of the electrical apart and everything else left in the cab.
Then I can start on the frame, now that is gonna be fun. It has all turned into one rusted piece of steel, never-mind trying to get the bolts off anything, lmfao. I may just take all I can off it and bring it to get sand blasted ( frame only).

Glad to see you are finally getting at that truck Mike.And it's also nice to see Renee out there showing you how it's done. I can see who is the muscle in your relationship now
You should go buy yourself a welder and do the cab repair yourself bud. For about $1000 you can get a complete gas wire feed system with bottle and cart. To repair your cab will probably be double that. I've seen this cab in person and the previous owner did some odd things with the cab repair. It's a nice solid truck but that cab is in scary shape. But IMO you should go buy a welder and do it all yourself bud. You already have Ebfabmans DVD's on cab repair don't you? Just follow his lead if you want to fix that cab.

Well I am gonna bring it in to get a quote. I am kinda concerned about the top of the windshield cause they riveted metal to cover a hole on the front of the roof and the rivets are in the rubber. All I can do is get a quote to get it done and if not I will just get another cab. For a half decent cab it will cost me about 1,500$. So that may be the way to go too.

Yeah I was gonna suggest getting a new cab instead of patching up the old one, but i didn't wanna seem to harsh and hurt your feeling bud I betcha Bills has a good cab for sale

I was always looking for a new cab the whole time, LOL. I think Bill's has a couple of them. He has one for 1,200$ and one with doors for 1,800$.
I will see how this goes and I may send him an email today and see if he has any others around. Besides if the repairs are gonna cost more than 2,000$ then it may be worth the trip to get another cab

That was actually only in about 2 - 2.5 hours. Only problem is that I am on my own today unless she decides to come over and see me, LOL. Now to finally get outside at almost 2pm and see what I can't break, hehe.

Well this is what I got done after day 2. I worked on it for about 5 hours this time. Renee came over again just about at the right time to help me remove the cab bolts and hood, plus we also moved the cab back a bit. I ended up NOT removing the front clip yet. I only have 2 bolts to go but I want to make sure I get all the stuff out of the way. It was more important to get the cab off this week so I can get it looked at and make a plan of attack for this truck so I can start to budget stuff, yeah right budget, LMFAO.

The fargo you see in the background is Renee's and she has to wait till I get my truck running before we work on her truck. Besides if you look in one of the last few pics I posted you will see the white Bonneville in the backround. I put that on the road for her to drive around in. I could have had most of my truck done had I not done that. So the deal was the Bonneville first, then my truck, then the Fargo. And somewhere in there a house, LOL.

Final pics for now
Alright well, got the cab fully removed today, got my engine hoist out form behind my box with the help of a chain block that was already conveniently mounted, hehe. Also come to find out that my parents trailer is not wide enough to fit the cab in it so on to plan B, calling friends, LOL.
After looking at the bottom of the cab and knowing that the box is the same, I have to ask myself if it is worth it or not. If I need to get a new cab and a new box and seeing how expensive it is up here to find good stuff, I don't really know what to do anymore. Here are the pics of the under side of the cab. What would you do?? try and fix this cab, try and find another cab, just go find a whole other truck that is somewhat done... I just don't know anymore.

I had to have something different on an older truck and I used to watch Dukes of Hazzard when I was growing up so of course they play Dixie, LMFAO. They are loud as hell too. You can hear them for blocks when I am in town.

Well If were you Mike I would either buy a cheap welder, buy some patch panels and have at it. Thats only if you think you can hadle it. Your cab is a big job. Looks like you have some structural damage with the rust in the main beam under the cab. In all truth tho bud, I would be looking for a better cab. Even if you can find one for $400-$500 that may need rockers and cab corners, you'll probably still be a head of the game. If I still had that nice 67 cab I would have given it to you, you pay shipping, but I gave it to a buddy for his 69 project. This is the joys of fixing up and old vehicle tho bud. You never know what you're getting yourself into until you start ripping it apart. I expected to be done mine over a year ago but I found way to many surprises.

If you have a trailer you might want to consider taking a trip down to Iowa. There is a place there that sells "rust free" cabs that they get from Texas. They arent totally rust free but they are decent.

I am gonna try and et a friends snow machine trailer today to see if I can bring the cab over to one place to have a look at it. The trailer I was hoping on using ends up being too narrow. As for a new cab the only ones I have found were the ones from Bill's and he wants over 1,000$ for them.
I may have a look around and see what I can find. I may also wait and see if the people I am bringing the cab to can find me one while they are down in the U.S. at the auctions they go to.

Well got a price on pretty much all the patch panels I think I will need. I am looking at about 500-600 in patch panels then the labor to do it. Considering that it would cost me about 1,200$ for a cab that may still need rocker and cab corners, plus the time and gas to go get it ( about 5-6 hours each way) I think I will go ahead with a quote and see what it is. Now that I finally have a trailer that I can haul it on I will go get a couple quotes tomorrow, well at least drop it off, hehe.

You might want to check with ZOOMY He lives in southwest WI I know about two months ago I talked to him and he had a totally restored air cab to part with. I don't remember the price but it wasn't that bad I don't know how far you are from detroit MI or even if that is where you would come in to US but he is about 400 miles from detroit hope this helps Good Luck EMMETT
