What's the widest tire I can put on 71 3/4?
I know the tires on there now are 16 incher's, but I think they're 85 series. I'd like to put wider tires on the truck and was wondering what's the widest tire I can put on those stock rims?
Truck is a 1971 Cheyenne C/20 2 wd long bed. Thanks, Rick |

Maybe I worded this wrong...the tires that are on the truck are 215/85/r16's on the original 8 lug rims...I don't know how wide these rims are, and was wondering if anybody knew...then I could ask the tire place what's the widest tire that can be put on those rims. I think the skinny tires make the truck look a little "whimpy".

Go to 1010tires.com, scroll down about 7-8 links on the LHS and open up the "tire size calculator".
This is a great tool. You can find out what tire size will fit what rim, width, diameter, radius, compare sizes...and then when you are getting close to what you want, you can even click on that tire size and get a list of some brands available, with rating information. Personally, I have no idea how wide your rims are. I have 295/50/15's on my lowered LWB... 15x10" wheels. As you can see, still have plenty of room!

They are 6" or 6.5" wide I think. You can put a 265/75/16 on them, about 31.6" tall. They should clear no problem and give you some meat. Only part to look out for in terms of rubbing is the inside back wheel wells. The 265's are right 2" wider than your tires now, so an 1" and an 1" out from where they are now. Overall Diameter will be less than 1" taller.
