In my forty-some years of driving, working on, and being around Chevies I've never seen a case of alignment shims coming out. Have I been that lucky?

I asked the guy who was showing that frame (72 Blazer) about those when I took that picture. He said they were one-off pieces made especially for that truck. However, he also said he could make them again for me, if I sent him the specs (thickness).
His business card reads: Suspension Werks Michael "Opie" Brinkley 713-542-1162 Hope that helps.

Have you looked at machine washers? They come in various thicknesses.
Like Fred I have never seen the shims come out either. Jim |

Did he say they fell out or you just went out of alignment? With all of the trucks on the road if that was a problem with them falling out there would have been a recall on that as a safety issue. Have you counted the shims and they really fell out or are you taking the shops word for it. If the alignment goes out and the shims don't fall out you have control arm bushings that are worn. If they are falling out the Nut isn't being tightened enough or is stripped and is backing out.

I buy the shims that have the frying pan handle with the hole drilled in them. I then lockwire them with stainless lockwire. Doesn't really accomplish much, but it does keep them neat, and looks trick.

![]() I USUALLY USE THESE SHIMS WHEN I BUILD A TRUCK THAT IS LOWERED MORE THAN 2 INCHES IN THE FRONT, SO I DON'T HAVE TWO USE TOO MANEY OF THE SMALL STEEL SHIMSWHEN I GET THE FRONT END ALIGNED. I TAKE AN OLD UPPER CONTROL ARM SHAFT, MILL IT TO ABOUT .625 THICKNESS, & CUT OFF THE THREADED ENDS. (THANKS TO MY G/F s SON IN LAW FOR DOING THE MACHINE WORK FOR ME) ![]() ![]()
