help please w/gmc poduction #s
i know we've posted the chevy production #s but what about the gmc #s? i've got an opportunity to buy a 1970 3500 gmc 9ft stepside pickup (gmc refers to these as "fenderside") but am interested in the production #s. thanks in advance!

none are avalible. The generic rule of thumb is one GMC for every three Chevys.
I don't know if that includes the big trucks too, or if it is just the 10 - 30 (1500 - 3500) series trucks. |

thanks- so i might be able to estimate that since chevy produced 2101 9ft stepsides in 1970 that gmc might have produced around 700. i just bought a 1970 gmc 3500 9ft "fenderside" all original with 30,000 miles. i could not believe the NADA values: $6600, $12100, $21100--but the production #s being so low does explain a little. i feel great about my purchase now. here is pic of truck....

my dream truck is a 1967 c-30 9ft stepside--has been since i was about 5 years old. my grandfather worked for missouri-pacific railroad and had an orange 1967 c-30 9ft stepside railroad truck he drove for many years. i used to have a picture of it but can no longer locate it. my love for these trucks started very early.
i am currently restoring a 67 c30 that was a chassis cab model and i am trying to locate a 9ft stepside bed for it. i have BIG plans for it. problem is the 9 footers are so rare to begin with and most of these were worked very hard during there lifetime so VERY few good examples survived. i will always try to save these trucks if i can. paticular to these trucks are the step boards and bedsides--neither are produced aftermarket, they are available via salvage only. other downside is that there is virtually no demand for these trucks although they represent some of the rarest models in the 67-72 series, therefore alot of these trucks go directly to the crusher. also alot of people think these trucks are ugly.

that reminds me too, about 3 months ago I saw a '67 9 foot stepper in the Canadian Autotrader. It was beat up but it was a Western (Canadian)Truck so it was still pretty solid...for $1500 CDN! This thing Ran and Drove! Some one didn't know what they had there. We know how low U.S. Production #'s for these type of trucks are...but in Canada?! They maybe made 10 of those a year...truely astonishing to think about it in a collector sorta way. Man, I just wish deals like that were closer to me.

That thing is in great shape from that photo.
I wouldn't hold my breath on the prices there, they are normally way off on there estimates to begin with. |

a canadian built 9footer would be something. the NADA value i agree means little to me-especially since i'm not selling the truck. but it is nice to have some outside estimate on the value of our trucks-and i think its good to have high values placed on them even though you might have to wait 10,000 years before someone actually bought it from you for that price. it would be interesting to know the formula NADA uses-i assume it would be based on original production #s (even if its an estimate), how many might have survived to today, and how many show up in shows and are sold today. is there any other way or source that might help research the actual production #s? i have another board member telling me a 1970 gmc 9ft fenderside model does not even appear in the standard catalog of american trucks.
also i will post pics as soon as i get the truck home so we can all have a better look.
