what is different about the Sierra Grande's

I've found a Sierra Grande, not sure of the year, think it might be a 72 based on the door panels/seat. I could tell it was a GMC, but that's all I know-what else can you tell me about them?

thanks

seeing as i have a serria grande i guess i'll answer the question. the serria grande was GMC's top of the line option truck. it has the top of the line interior, moldings ect...Chevorlet has the cheyenne super. it was chevrolet's top of the line as well. the serria grande was made from 1970 to 72, (in our bodystyle). gmc's are alot harder to find though. hope this helps

Yes they did. The Grande package or Super package consisted of the interior wood grain. Door panel inserts, woodgrain dash bezel, and glove box lid. I think that Houndstooth uhpolstery was part of it also, but not 100% possitive on that one. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

My 70 GMC Sierra Grande has the usual scrolled vinyl seat, a/c, ps, pb, 350 auto. I do have the wood grain trim on the outside of the truck, and the extra chrome around the windows. no tach or tilt though.

headliner

Wes, mine is a 70. Woodgrain inserts on the door panles. No woodgrain on the dash or glovebox. Tach, tilt, etc. No headliner. I thought this was odd. So all of them had the headliner and the extra trim, huh?

I guess I should have specified, mine does have the headliner and woodgrain on the doors. Like burnsman, I don't have woodgrain on the dash or glovebox, no tilt, not tach.

I'm almost positive it shoulda had a headliner. Does it have a cargo light? (these two features I have seen missing on more than one CST trucks)
All 70 and 71 trucks with vinal door panels came with wood grain.
Inst panel and glove box wood stickers didn'tshow up untill 71.

A buddy of mine from work had a sierra grande. It was a longbed 3/4 ton 4x4. The outside was a beater but the interior was awesome. He gave me the tach out of it before he sold it. All I had to do was install a non-tach dash. It had a tilt, buckets with console, headliner, A/C, AM-FM. It also had original shoulder harness belts. I rarely use seatbelts so, I passed on them when he offered them to me. Back then, I had no idea how rare they are. I should have bought the whole truck. He sold it for a grand.

Sierra

Mine was loaded with options too: shoulder belts, buckets, tilt, tach, cruise, big block, etc. When I bought it off of the original owners grandson, he said that it had been wrecked at one time on the side (cab/door). Everything else on the truck seems to match except for the cab. I'm wondering if they replaced it. It has a cargo light and factory rear slider. I was thinking the same thing about the woodgrain dash and glovebox. I didn't think it started until 71. Also, I have a parts truck with an excellent cab that has custom camper on the door (70 gmc sierra grande). My good 70 sieera grande just has custom on the door. I was thinking that it should say custom camper also. Anyone?

emblems

My parts one has custom camper and my good one has just custom. Sounds like you could get them either way. Good to hear from ya Paul! Still got your longhorn? That's a nice truck. So is your blazer. Any progress on them?

The Custom Camper ment one of two things, either it had the camper special package, nothing but HD springs, shocks and tires, or it was a longhorn.

custom is correct for the door on 70 and i have seen it on 71 as well. i wondered about the 71 though there is also a serria model. i suspect this was the custom edition for 71. as far as i know 72 was just serria grande, and serria as the lesser model. sort of like the cheyenne super and the cheyenne model for chevy.

sierra grande

Did 70 have the bed emblem also? Both of mine did. Just wondering if they are correct. Also, could you get the sierra grande 3/4ton 2wd with a sport bumper? Mine has period correct bumper, but I like the look of the sport bumper much better.

The Grande is the same option package YE9 as the super package and may even be listed in GMC trucks as Cheyenne Super equipment. This included wood grained moldings, dash and glove box door with grande emblem, bright tailgate handle, cargo light, headliner, extra sound deadening insulation and bench seat with houndstooth trim (buckets were vinyl only), everything else was optional at least in 71-72. Engines were optional so it could be a 250 all they way to 402, tach was not very common in 1/2 ton trucks, and tilt also not a common item. Not to change subject but has anyone ever seen a 67 GMC Camper special with a 351 V6 instead of the 305 V6? I saw one last week when I bought a new swb fleet bed from the guy. It still had the original option sheet in glove box listing the 351??

So, from all of the above discussion, am I correct in saying a '71-72 longhorn style GMC with the Sierra Grande package should have the Sierra Grande emblems on the bed, and the Custom Camper emblems above the door handle? ... and also have the "GMC 2500 Sierra Grande" emblems on the front fenders? That's a lot of emblems!

Just a note...It was common for GMC's to have woodgrain on the glovebox door and have the instrument bezel painted the body color
