it's already been discussed, personally, i say it is bogus.
He lists options by option codes in the auction, so this implies that the option sticker is still in the glove box...which it should being such a nice truck. If it was a COPO, it would say that on the option sticker. |

Total sham artist only 4 COPO trucks made only in 72, due to an error at Berger Chevrolet, 3 have non salvagable titles and 1 is in very safe keeping.

There were more than 4 made in 72...there were thousands. The air force alone had plenty, plus all the odd ball city trucks, large companys needing an odd ball color...ect.

the rareaty of the options in the truck/car. sometimes it the option isnt even a factory original option. there was a post that helped me understand it. the yenko cameros where a form of copo in the begining.

copo stands for central office production order...which means it was special ordered by the bigwigs at GM for a special customer. this is opposed to RPO, which stands for regular production order. Like Andy said, they arent all special. Usually it was for fleet purchase vehicles to be painted a non-catalogued color. About a year ago someone on here found a COPO C30 in a junkyard, iirc it was a 292/4 speed, and was painted a special green color.

yup, that is exactly what COPO was for...it wasn't designed for super hot cars, or big ass engines in a little car, it was for small orders of special vehicles that were not catered to by the normal RPO for that vehicle.
Don Yenco and Nickey and a few other dealers figured out that they can order just about anything they wanted through this program...most dealers had no clue that this could be done, and many of them had no interest. However, even the COPO vehicles had to follow guidelines. Some engines could not be had without lots of other optiond\s to support it, some things couldn't be done on certian models, certian vehicle combos had to be ordered in some what large amounts. (10 - 20) The COPO program was a good idea, and was taken advantage of (in corperate's eyes) by a few people. This is why any special packages, are now rolled up into a RPO....like the 9C1 caprice police car package...thats the one with the LT1. If you want it in any other color than black, white, blue, or silver...then you need to paint it your self. |

Actually, the wheels are just steel disc wheels with trim rings and caps. The caps look like they came off of a '70 Camaro. I like 'em, too. Still have a pair of caps, with a pair of '70 Camaro 14x7 steel disc wheels from a '70 1/2 SS.

There's a red and white '72 short fleet and a '70 green/white farm truck you might see around occassionally that I'm involved with (The '72 is in Savannag at the moment, only comes home occassionaly, it's my brother's truck). The '70 usually just gets driven when I come down from TN, but sometimes in between. I'm also probobly involved somehow in any old IH you might see around  Edit: I just saw the opening bid.... OUCH! And there's a RESERVE too?! |
