Propane question

Hi. A friend has offered me a propane setup for 150 bucks, inluding a big tank (150Litre I think). I understand from past posts that there is a bit of a power loss, but since I need a new engine anyway I was thinking of running a higher (10.5 or so) compression to help make up the power loss. Only a propane carb would be used, and with the octane being from 105-110 the compression should be no problem. I figured it would get the tank outta the cab too. Is anyone still using these systems? It gets pretty cold around here and with gas being so high it my gas bill will only get worse this winter. Is it worth it to convert anymore? The propane fad seemed to be big in the 1980's, and then died off, strangely, just as the SUV craze started up I know there have been a few previous posts on this subject, I just wanted a few more opinions on this deal.

Thanks.

Here is an article.I've only had experiance with one propane truck. It ran fine, and all,but fueling is something you plan,it's not as easy as just pulling in and fueling up.Hated the smell of the exhaust, and all in all the mileage was a little better, but in this part of the woods it was a huge hastle fueling up.

Fuel access should not be a problem, as I see many gas stations with propane around my area. Thanks for the link to the article.

I'm moving this over to the "engine and drivetrain" section. It will get much better exposure over there.

Kindest regards,
Kevin
