Spicer Hubs Question?
I took the allen head bolts out of them today and was looking inside them to see if i could see anything. Because one of them is loose and makes a little noise when i lock it in. I went to put them back on and when turn the knob to point at the word free and put them on the hub wont spin the way its apost to it spin counterclockwise away from the word lock. Not toward the word lock if anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

I am guessing that this is for your 78 3/4?
Do you have the big hubs or the small ones? Big hubs are 3/8" bolts around the outside and small are like a 10 x 32 inside the round face. I ask because I just installed a set of Warn Premiums on an 87 3/4 with small hubs. They say that the lockouts are supposed to wobble a little. They do not fit as tightly as the large hubs. If the lockouts are tight, it would be because we had the axles all the way out and did not assemble the lock nuts and spacer correctly. I do not know how far you went into yours. The first (inner) lock nut has a small pin that sticks out. It must be rotated exactly for the spacer with tab to line up with the shaft keyway and for a spacer hole to line up over the pin. Then the outer/second jam nut. The lockouts are then installed in the free position. Line up the inside notches with the hub face correctly and install. Jack up the front end completely and turn a tire or rotor. The driveshaft does not turn in free. Turn the lockout and spin again. The driveshaft will rotate when locked. Does this help?

Take the hub face back off and trun the knob to lock. Then reinstall the hub. That should make it right...

Thanks guys; Last night I went out there and tried again. This time i got them to where they would go to lock and free. Now there isnt any weird things that can happen right if it goes to lock and free then there right correct? Is there anyway they can reverse and the lock position be free and vice versa. I thank yall for the help so far.

They should stop at free and lock. Jack up the truck and check the driveshaft rotation to be sure. They have to be right but this will be another learning experience. Try it out and be sure in your mind. Peace of mind is worth alot.

Yeah nu2-72 you were right bout that. I jacked it up and checked and i locked both hubs and the driveshaft spun. I was wondering why dont the driveshaft spin if you just have one hub locked. But thanks for the help man.

If you only lock one hub then the differential will only allow the other shaft to turn vice the driveshaft.
