eaton gears, rehashed
howdy all, I recently stumbled upon an interesting bit of information. According to an individual on pirate4x4, the 1963 chevrolet light truck TSM states that there is a 5.83 gear ratio available for the Eaton H072 axle. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Holy cow! I thought 5.13 (or something thereabouts) was the lowest you could get! I could not imagine driving something with gears that low. My 4.56 gears already feel pretty dang low as it is.

Why the he!! would anyone want that low of a gear, I always thought 4:11's or even 4:57's were low enough.

If I could find a set of 5.83's, I would be all over them like s**t on toilet paper.
But I will probably just stick with my 5.14's.

DAM!!!!!!! With 7.60's, 35" tires, and a tranny going 1:1, the engine would be turning about 5000RPM's at 70MPH.

Remember the real deep gears were normally paired with real tall tires. The 20 inch split rim tall by skinney deals, so that cur the revs down considerally.

Yeah Longhorn Man you gotta point there. The tires are around 36 to 40 inches tall for the c/40 and up trucks.
