Power windows fuse - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Does it take a small square silver 30 amp fuse? Is there anything else besides that fuse in the fusebox that also operates the power windows?

Problem is I cant get the windows to do anything at all, like its getting no power. I replaced the window fuse with the silver 30 amp fuse. It was 10.00 and no guaranty with the fuse (I knew that). I installed it and nothing happened. Bought a 30 dollar drivers side window switch panel, nothing happened. My power lock works but only to lock the passenger side door. I think its the switch, I can lock and unlock if I jump the contacts in the switch. Driver side needs a servo for lock, I bought one but haven't installed it yet. Driverside window motor or the regulator gear is stripped. I got a new power window motor and new regulator, not installed. The windows used to work but pretty slow as most do that old. Then the driverside messed up but when I used the switch you could hear the window motor working. So I just left it alone, now I dont get anything at all.

Any ideas?

My Haynes book only shows the circuit breaker for the power windows/locks.

Thanks, anyone else have an idea why there isn't any power? Im probably going to mess with it tonight and see what I can find out. Besides what I have already tried.

Look for loose wires around the fuse box. The Power windows is seperate harness that plugs into the fuse box near where the Breaker is.

My wife somehow managed to kick the power wire out of the fuse box for the windows one year. Of couse I was 700 miles away when this happend and she spent a week with a window half rolled down in the middle of winter with a trash bag over it and a Ailpine Stereo in the dash.

Only one I seen that is maybe it is the thick red (pink) hot wire. I seen a wire bundle looks like it comes from the door but it goes up and I guess to the other side (passenger side).

Check inside the rubber grommet going from the door to the cab to see if any of the wires have broken.

No, I dont. I need to buy one but havent yet. How much does a good basic volt meter cost?

Volt meter is about $10 for a Cheap one. In this case a Test light would do just fine.

That big red wire is the windows. I don't have a truck with that fuse box any more. My 88 has the newer box. That box was used 78ish-85ish. As I recall on our 79 that big red wire was about 4 inches long with a second plug and ith second plug is the one the wife kicked loose.

Anything else not working? I am wondering if maybe you have a blown Fusible link at the starter or a bad ignition switch. Next step is to check and make sure there is power on that red wire or pull the CB (the silver box) and make sure one side has power with the ignition on.
