Question for a Quadrajet Expert - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'd like to mount an electric choke on my Quadrajet.

Did GM ever do this?? Tim says there was a '4MV' (he thinks) that had an electric choke. He thinks it came out in the 1980's. If any of you know for sure, I'd like as much info as you have. What years, models, part numbers, etc. Mine has the stock 'divorced choke' setup.

I know there are after market carbs with electric chokes and one of them may be a better choice. Tim has a brand new Carter in the box but I'd like to use my Quadrajet, I'd just like to use an electric choke. Call me bull headed.

My quad has an electric choke..early 80's one. Check on ebay and you'll see them.

Didn't even think about Ebay. I found a picture of what I have and one of what I want to do. Now the question is can it be done and where do I get the parts?

You can buy an electric choke conversion kit here, scroll down till you're almost to the bottom and you'll find 'em. They convert a divorced choke carb to an electric. The kits are about $60.

Looks like something that might just do the trick. I'm being told the new parts won't fit my older carb. But hey, if this will get r done.........

Yes, I bought a bunch of the choke conversion kits from JC Whitney when they were $15 . Have one on my 71 blazer been there 10yrs, one on 69 camaro,75 chevy, 70 blazer all work fine. I know they are now $60. JC whitney doesn't sell them anymore. $ 60 is alot though.

Hey no problem Bobbi. I haven't used 'em before but it looks like it might be a good idea. I was thinking about it but I got a carb from my Uncle with a vacuum controlled choke pull-of so now I don't need it. Yeah $60 is a lot of $$$ but it's cheaper than buying another new or rebuilt carb. If your carb is good I'd say try it. What part of TX are you in?

pound41 -- Do you just hook the wire up to switched ignition. My thoughts would be to hook it up to brown (switched ignition) going to the volatage regulator. That way, it would be hot with the key on and off with the key off or in ACC. ????????????????

Robert1970C20rstbukt -- Tim and I live in Longview Tx. North East Texas over close to Shreveport La. However, we are moving to Colorado Springs before the end of the month so we are packing and finishing my Blazer up.

Yes I just ran mine to the coil a much shorter distance and the wire is virtually hidden going back behind

Yes, I think your right. I'm going to use an HEI and have to run a new 10 gage for it anyways SOOOOOOOO, I may as well run the Choke wire and the tach wire all at the same time and be done.
