Harmonic Balancer/Vib Damper Bolt size ?
A little while back someone, actually several people here wrote the bolt size for these things stating that buying a long bolt, a couple nuts and washers, chopping the head off the boltetc.... was a good way to "press " on the balancer. Well Im going to give it a try. But I need that size again ! 75 350 guys ! Thanks

Thread on the sbc crank is 7/16-20, a tough score in all-thread. If you want to make one get a grade 5 6" bolt, cut the head off and thread the end with 7/16-14.

I use a piece of 7/16x20 threaded rod, a nut, a couple of fat washers, & some grease, along with the big factory washer. I got the all-thread at a local bolt place (look in the yellow pages), but you can get it on-line at www.mcmaster.com (search for threaded rods). If you really want to get fancy, get a thrust bearing (like a throwout bearing, but smaller) & use it between the nut & the washer.
