Digital Camera
Hello all,
I had my fingers crossed that I was going to be getting a didital camera from santa claus this year but no luck. I have a really sweet 72 shorty 4x4 that I am really wanting to show off to you guys. So my question is, and I realize this has nothing to do with our trucks. Do any of you have any suggesstions on a brand or model of camera. As long as it takes good pics of my 4 yr old daughter and of my truck I'll be happy. Hope all you guys had a wonderful Christmas! Chuck |

we bought an Olympus a couple months back. 3.2 megapixel. works ok, has a digital & optical zoom plugs into the tv if you want and uses generic photo cards, or whatever you call those things. From what I understand if you by a Sony, you have to use their "stick" , so if you want to get more memory you can't just by "jobber" parts. The more Megapixels ( Bigger number ) the better the resolution, especially if you want to blow up your image. The NiMh = Nickle Metal Hallide batteries are expensive but seem to last a very long time, and there rechargable. If yer battery goes dead you got no shots, and these cameras eat power..well worth the extra expnse, I figure.

I have been very satisfied with the HP cameras. Even the low end ones seem well worth the money.
I had an HP 315, which is bottom of the line useable camera. A flash and lcd screen are it's only real features...2.1 mp...it was dropped, kicked, sat in the truck in 100+degree weather, left in the rain dropped in the mud....and still kept on going. My wife lost it on a roller coaster. I have an HP 635 now, and while it is the same 2.1 mp, it has plenty of other features that was not on the 315. short movie clips...with sound, a 3X optical and 4X digital zoom, and so far, it has held up fine. One thing I don't like about this one is it uses internal memory, which is fine, but to expand the memory you need the model specific card, the generic card that many others use won't work. I just bought another 315 on e-bay for 30 bucks to my door...great X-mas gift for my son. I know it is durable enough for him, and 30 bucks is cheaper than a 35mm camera and 2 rolls of film. |

I have a Minlta Dimage Z1, its a good camera but it was about 400 bucks when i got it last year. its a good camera, has 40X total zoom which really isnt that nesicary. it you want to print photos you take, my camera will print out 8x10's at photo quality and its 3.1 mp. also, as far as zoom goes, digital zoom will pixelate the image if you zoom in too far and it cant be blown up as much after. optical zoom is better. so when u get a camera it would be better to get a camera with mreo optical zoom than digital.

I have a Sony 5.0 Megapixel with avi video, and I love it. I have an off-brand memory stick in it, and it works perfectly. My previous camera was an olympus 2.1 megapixel, and I hated it. There's a huge picture-taking delay, and the flash still had problems illuminating a picture that was taken at dusk. Maybe all Olympus digital cameras aren't that way though.
A friend of mine has an HP photosmart (older one), and is having some major issues with the batteries, and he doesn't like the pic quality 3.2 megapixel (I think). Another friend has a Canon Powershot, and has been happy with it for a long time. He's had it for I think 2 years now, and it has given him no problems.

One more thing, be sure to get a set or two of rechargeable batteries for the camera (providing it takes AA batteries). I've got 4 sets myself, and have used 3 in one day. I use the generic brand rechargeable batteries and quick charger that you can buy at walmart, and I'm very happy with them.
Best of luck.

Look into Canon "A" series cameras like A75, A85 and A95. I've got an A70 (last years model before A75) and I am very happy with it. Great color balance, good zoom range, works really good in mixed lighting cituations and A75 runs about $200.
Something to keep in mind about digital cameras is what type of batteries they use. Canon's that I mentioned use standard AA batteries or you can use rechargeables. For a good mail order source check out www.bhphotovideo.com

Luv, have you used yours in low light or dark conditions without the flash yet. I like the optical zoom on that one, I really don't care about taking hour long videos, but I do care about the diameter of the optics. The wider the optics, the more light it will let in while in a museum somewhere that has low light, and they don't let you use a flash.

On recent trips to China and Egypt with a cheep HP photosmart 2.1MP, I've been in some museums/temples/pyamids,etc... where camara flash is prohibited. With low light and no flash, my pictures were either very dark or very grain looking.
I was told the the larger across the camera "lenz" or "eye" (the part on front of camera that takes that has the glass lenz)... the more light the camera would let in, thus getting a better picture. I see you camera takes wonderful landscape photos, but still have issues while indoors. I guess I have to get a digi camera that has variable shutter settings and F-stops. But didn't want to spend the $1000 on the EOS I've had my eye on. |

I've taken over 5000 pics with my Sony Mavica. It's a little more money but like the results.

I bought a 2MP Fujifilm A205 at Wallyworld a few months ago for ~$100. I figured with my "insta-matic" level of photo-sophistication, I could return it for a refund if I couldn't figure it out (the universal 90-day-no-questions-asked-Wally-Warranty). Works OK for me (I kept it), but I haven't taken any pics of any humans yet. Seems OK for cars & stuff though.
WARNING: If you put it in "macro" mode & hold it out at arms length & try to take a picture of yourself, it will make you look F-U-G-L-Y! |

i got a kodak easyshare cx7300 for christmas and like it but it's a little too basic for me. i'm considering taking it back and getting something a little better. really my only requirements are...3MP or more resolution. sound recording ability. and some optical zoom. any suggestions? this one is 3.2 and 3x digital zoom and i love the pictures....just cant record sound is my biggest issue.

I like the Olympus digital cameras, but I'm sure any of these listed will work good.
