Help....Blazer VS Truck E-brake Set-up

I have been looking for the correct e-brake set up for a blazer and have gotten a couple of different answers, possibly truck info instead of blazer info. Now both Gee Emm and I are both confused since the pic I have below ( sent by a member to me ) has frame brackets for the hooks to attach to, and we do not have these on our frames.
Can someone who has the correct set-up please get us pics so we can get our blazers correct.

Thanks,
Bret

The parts in question are the pieces that hook into the frame that the cable goes through. In the picture they are shown hooking onto the top frame rail but I guess the exhaust is in the way, they should actually go on the side of the frame. What I would like to know is if Blazers use those hook thingys.

Blazers do have the 2 hooks on the side and they should mount down in the center area of the frame. Also the front cable does not mount on top of the frame like that. Sorry no pictures to show this

Yes, the 2 small hooks are probably 3 1/2 to 4" long and the long one up front on pass side is about 12"

That picture is of my '71 Blazer frame. The side hooks are definitely original and in the stock locations... on top of the frame. Admittedly, I had to fab one of the hooks, but the wear marks on top of the frame made their locations obvious. The cables have to route level with the top of the frame. If the hooks were in the middle of the frame the intermediate cable would ride on the driveshaft or output yolk (at least on the 4WD model). The front and intermediate cables I purchased were off the shelf and matched the originals exactly. The rear cables I ordered custom length. It all works as it should... perfectly.

As an aside, since posting this pic I have seen pictures of '69/'70 blazer frames that didn't have the passenger side frame bracket for the long hook. Instead, the long hook went through a hole in the top of the frame rail. Perhaps the bracket was introduced in '71?? At any rate, I have to think that there were many variations.

Here is another pic that I found from the opposite angle. The rear cables may have originally gone through the cross member, rather than under it as I have them routed, but going under worked best for me with the lift and rear disks.

It looks like I am missing the passenger side bracket for the 12 in. hook.

Thanks 71RestoRod ! now I know exactly what I need.

teamharvey,

Maybe, maybe not! I can't imagine that bracket just 'coming off'. Perhaps the bracket was deleted in '72. Go to tim_and_bobbi_blazer's web site and look at the pictures of their frame. In picture 100_0023a it looks to me like the bracket is not there. The factory may have saved a few bucks by deleting the bracket and using a longer hook.

Perhaps you could look at the top of the frame with an inspection mirror. You should be able to see any wear marks left by the hook

Good luck. Hope you get it resolved without too much pain!

My 72 2wd frame doesn't have the first bracket, it uses the pickup style rod. On pickup frames the side hooks go in the middle of the frame. Maybe the difference is between 4wd and 2wd, they probably had to put that special bracket on the front and mount the hooks on the top of the frame because of interference with transfer case ???

The layout from 71RestoRod is identical to my 71jimmy 4x. Except dummy me used a whole in the frame just ahead of the plate for the long hook, no wonder it was a pain in the rear to get the cables together. Looks like I'll need to take it apart again and use the plate. The plate is riveted on, two large rivets. Mine was missing some parts also, but luckily I had the hooks.

bracket

Bret, my 72 Blazer doesn't have the bracket either. The long rod goes in a slotted hole in the frame at about the same location as this bracket. I looked at two other 72 Blazers and they are identical to mine. The pictures I posted here:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=131339

are how mine (and the others) were hooked up. By the way, my long hook measures 14 inches long and .315 dia. Short hooks are 3 inches long and .225 dia.
