465 Rebuild
Has anyone ever rebuilt on of these 465's themselves?? Saw the kit from novak adapters they and it say it comes with instructions. I took the top off mine, stuff is rusty inside, but the gears arent chipped of anything. Can anyone shed any light??
Thanks, Ryan |

Just rebuilt one this week!! They are simple and basic as they come! Pay attention to the bottom counter shaft snap-rings as they are notorious for the snap ring lands breaking off and the snap rings then let third gear move!! They make a update sleeve (taking place of the snap rings) for this and the part # is WT-304!! Other than this they are pretty maint. free!! Just my 2 Cents!!

I have some helpful sites for SM465 info:
4W&OR SM 465 article SM465 rebuild procedures Anaheim Gear SM465 update parts (also available thru GM and other vendors) Novak's general SM465 info Novak SM465 parts breakdown (Click on IPB # at side to see description) Other parts sites are Drivetrain.com, Drivetraindirect. More exist. I like Novak's near-interactive IPB, though. The 3rd/4th gear countershaft sleeve is a good upgrade to stave off snap ring wear or breaks that allow 3rd to jump out of gear. I think the stronger detent springs available enable crisper shifts or shifter feel. I've heard that Novak includes some instructions with their master rebuild kits. I need to ask them myself. I think I'll have a local transmission repair shop use their tranny parts washer to clean the disassembled parts for me so they're squeaky clean upon reassembly. I'll be rebuilding my SM465 shortly. It's already out. Hence the accumulated info for this first time tranny rebuilder.

Thanks for the info guys, i ordered the kit today from novak adapters. They were a great bunch of people, very helpful. I see though that anahiem gear sells alot of upgrades. I may look more in depth at them too. But thanks to all for the help Ryan,
