Doesn't this scam look familiar

I have my truck posted on craigslist and this morning I got an e-mail from some guy in Africa that said that he was interested and that he has a cousin in Hartford and he said that he wanted to pay me with a cashiers check. I e-mailed him back and told him that I was weary of his e-mail and said that if his cousin shows up cash-in-hand it was his. This was the response that I got back:

Larry,
Thanks for getting back to me, pls let me trust you in this transaction.
Like i said earlier i am presently in the Western africa but will be getting back to my base in a week. there won't be any
problem, after payment ,the pick up will be made at your
place. i have made arrangements with my cousin.
As regards payment, this is what i am going to do;I have a client in the US
who is owing me US2,800 i would instruct him to make out a certified check
to you in that amount and as soon as it clears your bank. you can now
deduct your money other expences including tax clearance from it and send me my balance,i will be using part of
the money to pay for other expenses .you will then send me my
balance via western union money transfer.Although the value of the check
is more than the asking price but i think i should be able to trust you
with my balance.
The reason why i am doing this is that it would take
a check sent from over here in Nigeria 31days to clear
over there, whereas a check sent from the! US would
clear tops within 48hrs. So i would like you to deduct the western union
charges from my balance. So if my terms are acceptable to you,i would like you to give me your full
name, address and phone number so that i can instruct my client to make out the check to you.
Pls get back to me as soon as you get this mail so that we can round things up in a timely fashion..i will be trusting u in this business transaction. get back to me.
Thanks in this regard, TOM JONES.

I hate scammers.

I would never accept an overpayment from anybody and then they expect you to send them the balance, there's something definetly wrong with that!

I have my truck on there and Ive gotten 3 of the same emails, just from people in England, holland and some where Ive never heard of before. Craiglist has a warning for these kind of scams on there site. I guess it happens alot.

The bank will cash the cashiers check, you send the vehicle and the rest of the money. The month or so later the bank calls an somehow the cashiers check was fake. And they make you pay for it. Heard of it happening that way..

Just tell him your asking price is 2,800. J/K
Tell the guy to go pound sand somewhere else, your not biting.
The U.S. buyers only is a great idea.

I know Kurt I, wanted to be a complete bastard to the guy but this was my last e-mail to him:

"Sorry, can't do it. I've seen this one before. I know somebody that got almost the same exact e-mail that you just sent me. This is a scam and you should be ashamed of yourself for trying to steal somebodies hard earned money. I'm very offended that you would insult my intelligence. Please do not contact me again.

Have a good day"

It was worse but I edited it. I think that I went over the top with the intelligence comment though.

I had a guy stationed overseas that wanted to buy some wheels I had for sale, credit card went through O.K. with a Texas address, UPS was there picking up the wheels to ship them overseas when the call came saying the card was stolen. Almost lost the wheels. Selling on the net can be a double edged sword for sure.

Tell him that you will send him the difference 30 days after the check clears and then and only then he can have the truck picked up. I had someone try to scam me out of my Model A Ford. The guy told me that there would be a tractor trailor here to pick it up in three days. I told him (over the phone) that this would not be a problem, as long as the driver had "cash" and I would not accept any other payment. The next night I received another call from him stating that he would not be able to go through with the deal because his wife had a heart attack a couple of hours ago. (Now if "your" wife really had a heart attack a couple hours ago, would you be on the phone with "me"?) The phone number (caller ID) was from some University.

at least we are bright enough to recognize these scams, i feel really bad for the people who fall for these types of things, I wish people would get honest paying jobs, instead of finding out ways to screw honest trusting people out of their hard owned money, man if only allowed to stone people like that

I guarantee it is all automatically generated using your profile on the site. They just have a script that goes through and email's everyone and anyone who replys they get. It's called phishing, if anyone bites, they get your info and rip you off.

I have three things listed on craigslist and have gotten several of these damn e-mails. They are all out of country of course: Nigeria, Belgium and England.
