Help with ball joint installation
I'm installing a new upper ball joint in the control arm and not sure if the rubber boot and retainer (thin flat plate with flange that holds the boot) goes on top of the arm or below. I did not receive instructions with the new ball joint so I'm not sure.
It looks like it could go either way although it seems like it might not fit through the hole in the upper arm if I mount it on top. Anyone know how it should go. It is a moog ball joint?? thanks

It goes below. First put the boot then the boot retainer the hex bolts go in from the bottom and the nuts on the top.
I just did mine. My instructions included lock washers, but neither package contained them. Did yours included lockwashers? |

BALL JOINT REMOVAL
If they are original, they are held in by four heavy rivets on each. The best way to remove tham is to grind the heads off the rivets then knock them out with a hammer.
The lower ball joints are pressed in and have to be pressed out. Then the new ones have to be pressed back in. Auto Zone will let you borrow a press if you buy the parts from them. Last edited by Estanley; 05-28-2002 at 02:28 PM. |

My Moog balljoints were missing hardware as well. When I returned the one package the replacement set had a completely different set of bolts and washers. Makes me wonder whats going on down at Moog?
