Dummy lights to Mechanical gauges in cluster
Alright! Got a new twist for those well versed in the electronic department. Not sure if there’s a thread on this somewhere; if so, point me to it please. I got the dummy lights in the gauge cluster for oil, water, battery and including the brakes. I don’t care to wait for a light to come on, to notify me “I’m in trouble.”
Question: (For those who like to know). Do I have to change out the entire wire harness and replace it with one that has a cluster with the mechanical gauges? I tried the hard way; trading out a dummy light cluster for a mechanical cluster; It’s not that simple. I bet that most of you just ignore the dummy cluster and add the after market mechanical gauges, if you don't already have them. It would be nice to have them in clear sight in the cluster and not hanging under the dash. Don’t have money for the fancy pillar stuff. JonnyTM |

The 76-77 was the only cluster that had a mechanical gauge, and it was oil pressure. Everything else was electrical gauges.
To swap over you just need to locate the pinouts on the dummy light and find the corresponding electrical connection on the electrical gauge. The WILL NOT directly plug in. You might also verify your electrical sending units. Keep in mind the electrical systems need to match to get everything to a bolt in procedure. 73-75 won't work on anything but a 73-75. 76-77 can be made to fit from 76-91 (font change occured in 1981) 78-91 can be made to fit the 76-77, but you have to sort the mechanical oil gauge out... There is more to this, but read Crossy's topic here: http://www.73-87.com/7387garage/inte...achometers.htm
