You might try to turn the filter around, some filters only allow fuel to go one way. Just a suggestion.

Fuel Problem??

First off, hi. I'm new here, I just bought an 86 K-10 4x4 last week. As I am performing minor maintenance I have ran into a problem. I replaced my fuel filter last night and now it seems the truck will only start if I have the throttle down all of the way, and even then sometimes the rpms won't go very high. When I do get it started it stutters alot, as if it's missing or something. After I replaced the filter I ran one tank out off gas, I think, but switched to the other. It has the 5.0 305 with the th700. Any help would be appritiated, Thanx.

So are you saying it ran fine before you ran it out of gas?

Could also be that your tank switch solenoid is no good, its a very common problem with these trucks

Maybe when that tank of gas ran all the way out it pick up some junk that was on the bottom of the tank and cutting down on the flow. I would take the new fuel filter back out and replace it. Take the new (used) filter apart and see if there a lot junk in it.

It could be the switch but if it had gas then ran out, how would it still be running?

Have you checked the other things like wires, spark plugs?

One more thought, maybe the fuel pump is getting weak.

TrainD5115- Yes it ran fine before I changed the filter.

Russell- Could be, but I know the fuel gauge changed with the switch and it worked last week.

MylilBowTie- I took the new one out last night, I didn't change it out but it looked alright. I agree about the switch comment. I have thought about the fuel pump too, I'm going to look at things closer when I get a chance.

Do you think it could it be my choke?

Wouldnt hurt to check it, maybe gummed up or need an adjustment.
