Gross Combined Weight. Meaning total weight of truck, trailer and all cargo.

No you cannot add 6000 ON a trailer. You can add a maximum of 6000 additional lbs including the trailer.

GCW includes the weight of everything; truck/ trailer/ whatever is on the trailer/ cargo loaded in the truck, you, passengers, etc., etc.... A lot of people overload their vehicles simply because they do not understand what the Gross Combined Vehicle Rating is for. I used to even argue this one with the State Police when I had my hauling business, and they don't even understand it correctly.

That's all the stock hitch is rated for. If you want higher capacity, you need to upgrade to a heavier-duty one.

if you look at the ratings on the recivers, you cannot tow more than 5000lbs without a weight distributing hitch. All receivers are not created equal.
