Engine ID - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Ok a search here did not turn up much. And a search on google did not turn up what I was looking for. What engines were stock on the 63 chevy trucks? What v-8s were stock on the 3/4 tons and how do I id them? I know it is very possible it has been replaced in 42 odd years, but I was curious what it came from the factory with. Would it be a 283? I figure that is the most likely, but I don't know that much about older chevy trucks.

I don't have the vin handy, which I know should tell me more certainly. But I figure if I have at least a rough idea what I am looking at then I can make some plans.
