trailer wiring help
Can anyone tell me how to wire this dang trailer harness? I have a flat 4 pin harness and dont know what goes where, all I know is that white is ground. There is also a green yellow and a brown wire. I dont have anyone to hit the brake here and test the brake wire so I was hoping someone here might know what colors go where. thanks for any help

i got you one more figured out
The white is ground The Brown is marker / clearance lights The yellow and the green are for your turn signal and stop lights I just cant remember witch is right and witch is left.

You can get a board or stick or something like that and hit the brake switch.......just wedge it with a brick.

Easiest way to test the brake lights -- Pull the brake switch out a little bit, the lights will then remain in the on position as in it's natural state, the switch is normally closed (aka, no pressure on switch with pedal up = lights on)
For testing signal lights, just turn it on and check it with a test light PS -- I would very highly reccomend installing a 7 pin connector right away. You can easily buy / build the adapter you need for a 4 pin, or 5 pin connector, but the bulk of larger trailers these days come with a 7 pin connection on it

put your 4way flashers on the wire that is blinking when you check with a tester is your brake and signal that is the ones you hook the green and yellow up to then turn your harazzards of and turn on your tail lights then check the wire harness again this is the one you hook your brown to

WalMart, Kmart and most of the autoparts stores sell a prewired trailer harness that will plug into your harness at the rear of the truck. No searching or poking or anything else needed. You unplug the harness under the rear of the truck and plug the trailer harness in place. Then you use an existing screw point for the ground wire and you are done and ready to tow. It costs around 13.00 or so if I remember correctly. I put one on my 87' Blazer when I first got my trailers 4 years ago. They are more expensive than the regular 4 flats, but that is more than made up for in the ease of installation. It took me less than 15 minutes including reading the directions. The hard part is finding a ground screw to use. Hoppy makes them.

I didnt think the plug in harness was available for a vehicle as old as mine, thats the last time I listen to those idiots at checker auto parts (I am an idiot for believing him too).
I went to napa found a plug in harness and they still dont work right though, I have no brake lights, left turn signal activates left turn signal on trailer but the park lights work ha ha. Looks like I am going to have to hardwire it anyway Of course the PO hacked into these wires too, WTF do are people thinking when they half A$$ things. Dont they realize it makes things more of a pain in the butt?

we have a HD 7 pin since we had the race trailer..we wired it ourselves with a trailer brake and something like 10 amp connectors....got it's share of abuse...go 7 pin. You'll enjoy the accessory connection.

I was wondering. What it take to make the bed to a trailer. i was thinking of doing this if i dont sell my 81 truck bed. is it hard just cut the frame then weld one of those goose neck things to it them the wires. right?
