pics of 14BFF axle progress

well i finally got the last parts i was waiting for to get the 14 bolt back together. got most of it put back together last night, still a few odds and ends to do. i'll be starting to put the front back together this week, and i might be sittin on 40's by the end of next week

here is the diff cover in raw form that i got from shawn at greatlakeoffroad. this thing is a beast. 1/2 inch laser cut flange, cover made from one piece of 1/4 inch plate bent on a cnc press and welded at the seems.

painted the cover and rear disc brackets light grey. i still need to spray som black paint on the part of the diff flange that the cover doesn't over lap. i'll be shaving about and inch off the bottom lip of the diff itself, eventually

got the rear disc brackets from shawn at greatlakes also. laser cut.

it turned out so clean i almost don't want to put it in such a crappy looking truck

Looks expensive. That cover is the nicest fabbed part I've ever seen. I would weld on a square perimeter of angle iron for some glass to lay on and put that in my living room as a coffee table.

yeah, i am really impressed with his work. the crazy part is that his prices are cheaper than any other manufacturer that makes beefed up covers. he is a one man operation and does his best to keep costs really low.

Really nice rear end cover,I do fab work and that IS beautifull.

Just curious?
Are the ends of the 14 bolt corporate full floater rear end the same as the Dana 70 10 bolt full floater.

What calipers, rotors and caliper adapter is yours??
I have a Dana 70HD under a 1 ton CC Dually that I want to put disc's on.
I can fab a caliper adapter if needed.

Thanks!

Just my .02

i'm really not sure about the interchangability with a dana 70. on the 14bff you just need a caliper bracket spaced the appropriate distance from the flange. then you just knock the studs out of the hub/drum assembly and trash the drums. then you can use a front rotor from a mid 70's 3/4 4x4 chevy and place it on the hub and knock the studs back through just like you do on the front. you can use calipers from the same type truck as the rotors or you can use cadilac calipers if you want to hook up a parking break

it only ended up costing me about 200 bucks to got from drums to disc, thats including everything, brackets, rotors, calipers, pads, lines.... so its a no brainer to do this conversion when redoing a 14bff

Thats why is was in "quotations". I was referring to when he gets the diffs in and wheels and tires mounted. Trust me, I know things are rarely finished in a car guys (or girls) world.

How do you plumb the brake bias adjuster. On my 76 C30, the orginal propratanial valve works great with discs in the rear, good pull down and equal lock up, HYDROBOOST, yea.

How far did you have to move the spring mounts (inboard?)
I just ordered a seal kit from Jeg's to freshen up mine berfore the install ($50...not bad)

the spring pearches are spaced the same for 3/4 and 1/2 ton trucks. so a full floater from a 3/4 will bolt right in a 1/2 ton. if its a 1 ton, then the spring perches have to be moved
