the bolts that go up through the frame and bolt to the cab, do they bolt to the inside of the cab or just to the body? do i need to remove the seat and carpet or what? has anyone removed a cab from a 73-87 pu? if so what is the best way? i heard the cab weighs about 500-600 lbs. any help would be appreciated.

I am pretty sure you don't need to do anything inside, the captive nut is stationary. I haven't done this but I checked out this link because I want to change my cab bushings. http://myweb.cableone.net/m-t-w/83chevy/bushings.htm

you do not have to remove anything from the interior, as was mentioned there are captive nuts inside the body. however, depending on your location, and the way the truck was cared for, it may be necesary to cut an access hole in the floor to gain access to the nuts. here in the rust belt, it is not uncommon for the nuts to break free from the body. once you locate the bolt in the floor, cut a u shaped access hole, do what you have to do to remove the nut, then when you're all done weld the hole back closed.

I jusy did this, if you are removing the whole cab there are a number of things to remove.

steering column
Brake Booster
un plug the wiring harness
emergancy brake cable
as mentioned the cab bolts may or may not come out on there own. If old cab is no good you can just roll it off on your own My two boys and I set a new cab next to the frame and rolled the new cab on to the frame by rolling the cab door to door with no problems.

If old cab is good it is heavy but you can roll it off with no problems also take mirrors off and roll door to door this will protect all your glass
