Removing bottom leaf for a bit more drop.

I have a 67 shorty and leaf spring suspension. I have a 5 pack of springs and a really big spring on the bottom of the pack. I will not be towing or hauling anyting in the box. Would there be a problem taking that spring out ? I can't find a reason not too I think it will give me that extra 1.5"-2" drop I want.

The flat helper leaf on the bottom can be removed, but i doubt it will drop you much(about 1/2", or about the thickness of the leaf). the helper spring is not part of the load rating on the spring , untill you have enough weight on the truck to squat the springs...... L

That what I thought. I am never going need it the axel will hit the frame long before I need the lowest spring. What are you running for slapper bars
??

I have a cheap pair of Lakewood slappers, that clap onto the springs($30 or so through summit or Jegs). my ubolt plates are made from heavy flat plate steel (3/8 " ), & the rear of the bar is bolted to the U bolt plate. This lets the snubber hit the eye of the spring (short bar). Clamped about midway on the front half of the spring, & a set of ubolt/bar clamps approx 1ft behind the axle, they work pretty well on my longhorn. bear in mind that these are universal car slappers, & I have flipped the axle on my truck.......you will need longer brackets if your axle is under the spring.
