question on brakes and prop valve - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

during my rebuild I initially installed new disk conversion and left the drum drum master cylinder and valve. I drove this a bit prior to the rest of the tear down the brakes seemed to work excellent. Well during the buildup I decided I should make it "right" and replaced the master cylinder (new) and bought a prop valve off this site I have replaced all the lines and all new brake parts on the rear and have bleed them and have fluid at all 4 corners.
Well after the maden voyage the brakes work very well but the rears seem to want to lock too soon? Any thoughts?

Dave,

I recently replaced the master cylinder, prop valve (from a vendor on this site), and the front brake lines. Haven't done the rear yet. I had that problem also, but it turned out that I had the rear drums too tight. Just loosened them up with the adjuster and everythings fine.

Also, make sure your rear hose isnt old and deteriorated. My fronts locked up once because the inside rubber came loose and acted as a one way valve (held pressure but not released it.)

thanks guys I will do some reading. the hoses and lines are new but I did tighten up the drums pretty good. Prior to the front disks I had to keep them adjusted pretty tight. I have not checked them since I drove around the block they may have changed some.
