Tire size and drop
newbie here...i just picked up an 85 swb 1/2 ton. i am curious as to whether anyone has run a 275/45-20 tire on the front with a 4" to 5" drop? were there any issues with rubbing and if so, how bad? I am planning on a set os 20x8.5 wheels 275/45-20 front and 295/45-20 rear. thanks in advance for any help.

I don't know of anyone running 275/45/20's on the front with a 4-5" drop. I believe Crush is running 285/35/22's on a 10" wide wheel in front which is as large but wider than what you're planning. He's running a 6" static drop. I don't know if he has any rubbing issues. A '77 Silverado feature truck is running a 275/40/20's on a 10" wide wheel with 2 1/2" drop spindles and bags. You're combo 'may' work. Check with your wheel dealer to be sure. What wheels are you planning on running?

funny thing is, that i am a wheel dealer. i finally picked the truck up tonite and have just been going thru my ideas up until this point. i figured as big as the internet world is, someone my have done this and this is our busy season, so i did not want to waste too much time test fitting. besides i am going to put the wheels and tires on first before i drop, so i was hoping i would not need to swap tires. i believe it will work, but it has been along time since one of these trucks have been round to play with at our store. all new model stuff ya know. anyways i will let everyone know when it is done. thanks for the input. o the wheel is a WTD 938 that we just got in with a black painted center and machine polished lip, since i will most likely black suede the truck at first, just to get it one color. here is a link to my website with the chrome version, as we do not have the black pic yet, since the wheel just landed. http://streetdreams.org/display.php?...e&supplier=WTD

A good combo would be 245/40/20's all the way around or if you wanted to run some meat in the back run a 295/40/20.

I couldn't find any BS or offset specs on those wheels. My guess is that you probably need about 4 1/2" to 5" BS to clear the front fenderlip. ... black suede pruneda- Here's Crush's post of his truck.

Well the main reason i wanted to go with those tires, is because i am a cheap bastard and i just wanted to do a quick drop and toss some wheels on it for now. the truck is ugly as hell right now, but a drop (eventually bagged) and wheels can help anything. i might spend a lil more and go 275/40-20 front and 295/45-20 rear in the hankook. i would like to do the 245/40-20, but the problem is finding a bigger matching tire for the rear. as cheap as i am i hate having mismatched tires. i will more than likely sell this setup later and when it is bagged go up to a 20-22 combo or maybe even 22-24. thanks for all the input.
