A night and day difference!- mystery solved
I just picked my truck up from the tranny shop. I had my Demon carb tuned by a well known local racer recently. I had it out of whack playing with it. No more burning eyes now!. Anyway he said the lack of power (basically like riding in 3rd gear constantly) was due to the tranny not downshifting and told me to see the guy who builds his trannies. I figure if he has a 7 second car he knows his stuff. Anyway the guy at the tranny shop was real cool and it turns out the kickdown cable was broke AND it was actually too long so he put a new one on. Now with everything dialed in it's sooooooo much fun to drive!. He said I should go with a tight 2500 verter so that will probably be next on my to do list. Just though I would share my happiness today!

It was in 3rd all the time???
I drove for 2 1/22 years with no cable at all...we cut it off at the bottom and sealed the housing shut, it would start in first, and go to third like normal...it'd shift a little early, but I worked around that. Other than that..it just wouldn't kick down. |

I drove my 71 Cutlass for many years without the kickdown working. I just manually downshifted it. Of course it helped that it was a console shifter. I kinda liked it though because it had a lot of torque so it didn't need to downshift to speed up. I only downshifted it if I was really getting on it.

Andy- it was shifting way to soon and would not downshift at all.
70 shorty- I have a ratchet shifter so I could shift it manually to hold the gear longer. I adjusted the modulator to delay the shifts but with the kickdown working it's awesome. It feels like a double pumper with the throttle response. The cable that was replaced had a broken clip and was too long. This new one is a different type!

if you go with a higher stall 'verter, be sure & install a BIG tranny cooler!
heat kills trannies & high stall 'verters make LOTS of heat. curious if your th350 has lockup capabilities? if it does, get a lockup 'verter for it.you'll be much better off in the gas/dependability departments. here is a link to the best: http://www.converter.com/vigilante.htm they make some of these you can run wot while locked up! these are kinda pricey but competitave & definately worth it! worth one full second on some cars/trucks!

Hey 70c10, I have a speed demon 650 that I am just running as it came out of the box, do you see any differences now that it is tuned? Did you have to buy any parts for him to tune it?

Chevibubba- my tranny is not a lockup. I am planning to have one custom made for my truck that is efficient(less heat). I will ask the guy I'm getting it from about the cooler.
Thanks bjohn3x- I see a major difference!. I wish I was a carb tuner but I'm not. The guy who tuned my truck has gone 180 MPH in his race car. I didn't need any extra parts for what he did. (Basic tuning). When you get your speed demon dialed in, you are going to love it!

My buddy is running a Big ATI and loves it. bigjimz111 has recommended Oldani Motorsports several times on this board and that's who I'll be going with. The guy there is very knowledgable.

Here it is...This pic is on Fluidampr's website as well...He runs a sweet fluidampr on his car and they put his pic on the website... lata CHRIS
