Just a few questions... #1 What is all involed in changing from 8 lug to 5 lug, Or can u do it buy simply changing from drum to disk? #2 Would it be a good idea to change out the V6 what is in it for a 400 small block? And would the 400 Small block fit in it and bolt up with the 4 speed tranny?

Tanis,

Yeah, you could probably change to an SBC. You might need an adapter for that trans.

BUT, I wouldn't. Those v6s are unique to GMCs and people speak pretty highly of them for their performance and their uniqueness.

welcome i also have a gmc w/ the v6, if you want to swap out the v6 for v8 you could kill two birds with one stone just get the front cross member like out of a 71-72 or 73-87 with 5 lug and you will get disk brakes also. also i think to put a v8 in front your 4spd all you need is a bellhouseing and a clutch for a small block. if i'm wrong someone tell me what is right.

also the v6 will almost out last your truck mine has 360k+ miles on it and has no sign of quieting, but it will be gone for a small block i hope so.

sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a question about this. I have a 65 fleetside that I want to convert to 5 lug disk brakes, so can I take the front out of a 85 C3500? The 85 is a big block dually...

Thanks for the info guys but the converison kit seems a bit pricy for me. that is a bit out of my price range atm. Right now i have all kinds of ideas what i want to do with the truck but as it stands i have to do something with the brakes. when i bought the truck the guy said the front needs to be bled. When i got in thier and started to bleed them i have notice that they was fine in that behave. So i went and bought a new set of hardwear. And now it seems that the boster is bad... Go figger.... but i am sure when i get a bit farther down the road i will run into more of thies mishaps. So from the sounds of it seems that the V6 is the best bet.. Thanks for you guys info
